If sores are predominantly in the Foot Yangming Stomach meridian, remove Chaihu and Shuniuzi.
If predominantly in the Shaoyang meridian, constituting Ma Dao with Ying, remove Duhuo, Loulu, Shengma, and Gegen; add Qumaisui (3 fen).
If the patient is constitutionally Qi-deficient but the disease onset is vigorous with strong, non-shortness-of-breath respiration, treat as Qi-excess. Add Huangqin, Huanglian, Huangbai, Zhimu, and Fangji (Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae), treating according to whether the pathogen is in the upper, middle, or lower jiao.

Generally, the principle of medication applies not only to sores but to all diseases. One must assess the patient's constitutional Qi deficiency; bitter-cold herbs should be removed, and herbs like Renshen and Gancao should be increased. These are essential herbs for clearing fire and tonifying original Qi.
