Hou Gan (Throat Chancre)
The throat is a critical passageway for life and should not be neglected. If the condition becomes incurable, life or death may be determined within one or two days. Mild cases progress slowly, while severe cases progress rapidly. Treatment should involve internal administration of Liang Ge Jie Du (Cooling the Diaphragm and Detoxifying) decoctions. Externally, use 1 fen of Bingpian (Borneol), 5 fen of Ercha (Catechu), and 2 qian of Baicaoshuang (Soot from burning grass), ground together into powder. Each time, blow 5 li of the powder into the throat; this yields miraculous effects, incomparable to other prescriptions.
Yue Shi Gan (Moon-Erosion Chancre)
Sores around the ears and below the ear that cause erosion are named Yue Shi Gan (Moon-Erosion Chancre). This condition arises from damp-heat in the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian and Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. Internally, clear the damp-heat from these two meridians. Externally, mix 1 qian of Huangdan (Lead Monoxide), 1 qian of Chi Kufan (Red Burnt Alum), 1 qian of Zhenfen (Rice Powder), and 0.5 fen of Bingpian (Borneol) into a powder. Apply dry to the affected area. Alternatively, mix with saliva for application, which is also effective. Another prescription uses Yanjiao Mo (Smoke Glue Powder) for application.
Xuan Zhi Gan (Rotating Finger Chancre)
Although the hands and feet are where the meridians of the five zang organs originate or traverse, the Spleen governs the four limbs. Because damp-heat resides in the spleen, it causes putrefaction, similar to how various objects rot during the humid and hot weather of midsummer (the sixth lunar month). The treatment method should focus on clearing damp-heat from the spleen and stomach. Externally, mix 5 qian of Ercha (Catechu), 1 qian of Xionghuang (Realgar), and 2 fen of Pian Nao (Camphor) into a powder. Wash the area with rice water and apply the powder; this yields miraculous effects.
Xiu Kou Gan (Cuff Chancre)
This chancre occurs on the glans penis and the neck (corona), swelling internally while the external skin covers it, hiding the sore, resembling a cuff covering a hand, hence the name. It resembles retraction of the glans and is extremely difficult to treat. Why? Because medicinal applications cannot reach the sore directly. It is advisable to add Bingpian (Borneol) paste to eye ointment, place it inside an eggshell, and fit it over the glans for soaking, combined with internal administration of formulas that clear liver damp-heat, which yields good results.
Sao Gan (Pungent Chancre)
There are sores on the jade stem (penis) that are itchy and painful, appearing red with discharge. This is caused by damp-heat in the Liver Meridian due to lack of hygiene after sexual intercourse. The nature of the Liver is associated with a pungent odor (sao), so the sores also have a pungent smell, hence the name. Treatment should focus on clearing damp-heat from the liver. Externally, applying Ercha (Catechu) yields miraculous effects.
