Yin Gan (Yin Chancre)
Chancre within the vagina of women is called Yin Gan. It arises from damp-heat accumulating in the Liver channel. After a long duration, parasites may cause itching, accompanied by a fishy and foul odor. Some cases result from excessive sexual intercourse with men; this is not merely damp-heat in the Liver channel but rather an infection with toxic pathogens from sores. One should carefully investigate the origin of the condition before treating it for optimal results. External application of medicated powder is used; the formula is provided later.
Du Jing Gan (Jealousy Essence Chancre)
"Du" refers to jealousy. This condition occurs due to sexual intercourse with unclean women or failing to wash after intercourse, causing stale semen to accumulate in the penis (Yu Jing). The "jealousy" (accumulation/retention) leads to the formation of chancre, hence the name. Internal treatment should clear damp-heat. Externally, wash the affected area with water boiled with Cortex Lycii (Di Gu Pi, 地骨皮), then apply Zhen Jin San (True Gold Powder, 真金散)—which is ash made from burning cloth soaked in the first menstrual blood of a virgin—for immediate effect.
Wu Gu Gan Shang Chuang (Innocent Chancre Injury Sore)
This Gan condition occurs when infants are sweating and exposed to air, accidentally having feces and feathers from female birds fall upon them. Parasites enter the skin and hair follicles, causing nodules to appear behind the ears and on the neck of the child, resembling small balls inside. These nodules move when pressed, are soft, and painless. Over time, the parasites transform and invade the Zang-Fu organs, leading to emaciation, high fever, pus and blood in stool, splitting of the cranial fontanelles, and sores on the limbs. Treatment should focus on eliminating Gan.
Yan Kao Chuang (Stagnant Buttock Sore)
During the postpartum confinement period while nursing an infant, damp-heat accumulates in areas where limbs, chin, cheeks, axillae, and popliteal fossae are bound tightly. This stagnation often rots and forms sores. This is caused by inadequate care by the wet nurse. Do not use other medicines; simply take one ingredient, Long Gu (Fulong Gan, 伏龙肝—calcined red clay), grind it into fine powder without restriction on quantity, apply it to the affected area, and wrap with paper to heal.
Luo Qi Chuang (Umbilical Cord Falling Sore)
After the umbilical cord falls off in newborns, if the umbilical discharge does not dry and the wound fails to close, it is often due to the wet nurse's lack of diligence, urine wetting the navel, or failure to dry the area thoroughly after bathing. This commonly results in this type of sore. Use grass paper burned to ash, mixed with a small amount of Alum (Ku Fan, 枯矾), ground into powder, and inserted into the navel. Wrap with paper to keep it dry, and it will heal.
