The suffering of Ding sores (Ding abscesses) presents with a wide variety of symptoms. If accurately differentiated and treated appropriately, efficacy is achieved as easily as picking up a mustard seed from one's hand; if the method is incorrect, it is as difficult as slaughtering dragons in the sea. This is due to a lack of detailed understanding. Therefore, one must distinguish its morphology, recognize its name, understand its secrets, and obtain the appropriate treatment. Thus, I dare not conceal this knowledge but pass it down to future generations. To allow people to survive—is this not benevolence? Truly benevolent! Hence, I dissect and analyze them, recording each name in detail.
In ancient times, Lu Bian (Bian Que) and Hua Tuo of the Han Dynasty only mentioned five types of Ding sores, which correspond to the Ding sores of the Five Zang organs. By differentiating the five colors and dividing the Five Zang organs, they were named according to Green, Yellow, Red, White, and Black.
1. Heart Ding (Heart Abscess): Its morphology arises at the end of the Shu-Mu points and Jing-Well points of the Heart meridian, or at the tip of the little finger of the hand. The color is red, accompanied by fever, vexation, restlessness during sleep, and dry mouth. The pain corresponds to the Heart, urine is red, the face is red, and there are pearl-like spots on the tongue. Treatment should utilize Xie Xin Tang (Drain the Heart Decoction), supplemented with formulas that support the interior and detoxify.
2. Liver Ding (Liver Abscess): The color is green, and the morphology arises in the region of the Liver, at the tip of the big toe of the foot, or beside the hypochondrium. Symptoms include alternating chills and fever, headache and neck pain, sensation of firelight in the eyes, bitter taste in the mouth, hypochondriac pain, difficult urination, and a greenish complexion. Treatment should utilize Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction), supplemented with formulas that support the interior and detoxify.
3. Spleen Ding (Spleen Abscess), also known as Huang Ding (Yellow Abscess): The morphology mostly arises in the region of the Spleen. Symptoms include loss of appetite and frequent vomiting. The color is yellow. Treatment should utilize Xie Huang San (Drain the Yellow Powder), supplemented with detoxifying agents.
4. Lung Ding (Lung Abscess), also known as Bai Ding (White Abscess): The morphology mostly arises in the regions and meridians of the Lung, or at the tip of the big finger of the hand. The color is white. Symptoms include fever and cough. Treatment should utilize Xie Bai San (Drain the White Powder), supplemented with detoxifying agents.
5. Kidney Ding (Kidney Abscess), also known as Hei Ding (Black Abscess): The morphology mostly arises in the regions and meridians of the Kidney, such as the Yongquan acupoint at the tip of the little toe of the foot. Symptoms include alternating chills and fever and a darkened complexion. Treatment should utilize detoxifying and interior-supporting herbs, combined with drugs that guide the action to the Kidney meridian.
6. Hemp Seed Ding: The flesh protrudes, the head is like a millet grain, the color is slightly black, the four sides are slightly red and very itchy. Avoid consuming hemp seed oil and clothing made from hemp.

9. Female Ding: The condition is slightly yellow and concave inward, resembling a moxibustion sore. Pus rises on all four sides, the center is concave, the color is red, and the shape is like a coin hole. Avoid sexual intercourse.

11. Rotting Ding: The color and shape are slightly black with white patches. After ulceration, it flows with pus, sized like the surface of a spoon. Avoid consuming boiling hot food.
12. Thirty-Six Ding: The morphology is black, floating up like a black bean, with redness around the edges. One appears today, two tomorrow, increasing by one sore per day. If it increases to thirty-six, even miraculous pills cannot save the patient. If less than thirty-six, it is treatable. Avoid anger and sorrow. Also known as "Stars in the Sky."
13. Snake Head Ding, also known as Snake Eye Ding: The head resembles a snake's head with two eyes, similar in size to a snake's eye. It causes severe pain and mostly occurs on the fingers of hands and feet. It is advisable to remove the "eyes" and apply medicine.
