Huanglian Jiuku Tang (Coptis Decoction for Saving from Misery): Indicated for Naoju (carbuncle of the brain/neck), Fabian (carbuncle of the hairline), Fayi (mumps/carbuncle of the parotid region), and Tianxing Shidu (epidemic toxic heat). In the initial stage, it presents with aversion to cold and high fever, swelling of the head, face, ears, and neck. If taken when pus has not yet formed, it will resolve spontaneously; if pus has already formed, it will suppurate rapidly.
Ingredients: Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Guiwei (Tail of Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Gancao Jie (Jointed Licorice Root). All ingredients are used in equal proportions.
Preparation and Administration: Decoct two bowls of water until reduced to 80%. Add one cup of wine. Take warm after meals.
Jiedu Tianshang San (Antitoxic Heavenly Pulp Powder): Indicated for Naoju where accumulated toxin is deep-seated, presenting with hard, swollen, and numb stiffness, dry mouth and tongue, nausea, irritability, and thirst, with six pulses being deep, solid, and forceful, accompanied by constipation. It is suitable for all such cases.
Ingredients: Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis, raw and ground), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Chuanshanjia (Manis Squama), Fangfeng, Lianqiao, Jinyinhua, Qianghuo, Ruxiang (Olibanum), Huanglian, Dangguiwei (Tail of Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gancao (each 1 qian), Dahuang (3 qian), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix, 4 liang of fresh, un-dried root pounded in a stone mortar, mixed with one bowl of water, stirred evenly, juice extracted and dregs removed).
Preparation and Administration: Take half a bowl of the Tianhuafen juice, decoct together with other herbs until reduced to 80%. Add one cup of wine. Take warm on an empty stomach. After three bowel movements, food may be consumed. Avoid fried foods and fa-wu (stimulating foods that may aggravate disease).
Huidu Yinhua San (Return-to-Toxin Honeysuckle Powder): Indicated for Naoju and various other carbuncles where yin sores fail to rise and change color to purple-black.
Ingredients: Jinyinhua (2 liang), Huangqi (Astragali Radix, raw, 4 liang), Gancao (Licorice Root, raw, 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Use 20 liang of fine wine. Place herbs in a small-mouthed clay pot, seal tightly, and cook in a double boiler for the duration of three incense sticks. Strain the clear liquid and take. Keep the affected area covered and warm. The sore will gradually swell and rise, indicating a transformation from yin to yang, which is auspicious. Subsequently, use Tuoli medicines (tonifying and promoting suppuration) to expel pus. If there is no pain or rising after taking the medicine, and black fluid flows from the sore head, it indicates True Yin syndrome, which is incurable.
Meihua Wuqi Dan (Plum Blossom Five Qi Pill): Indicated for Naoju, Fabei (carbuncle of the back), and various Dingzhong (hard boils), initially presenting with alternating chills and fever, bone and muscle pain resembling wind-cold invasion, nausea, and vomiting, before pus formation. It is suitable for all such cases.
Ingredients: Meihua Bingpian (Plum Blossom Borneol, 1 qian), Shexiang (Moschus, Dangmenzi variety, 1 qian), Chen Sha (Cinnabar), Qingfen (Calomelas, each 1.2 qian), Zhao'er Xuejie (Dragon's Blood), Ruxiang (Olibanum), Moyao (Myrrha), Ming Xionghuang (Real Realgar, each 2 qian), Zhen Chansu (Toad Venom, collected on Dragon Boat Festival Day, 4 qian, mixed with male breast milk into a paste).
Preparation and Administration: Grind each herb into fine powder and mix according to precise proportions. Prepare on Dragon Boat Festival Day during the Chen hour (7-9 AM). At the Wu hour (11 AM-1 PM), shape into pills facing the sun, size of an eggplant. Dry for one hour. Store with 27 grains of Sichuan pepper and 27 segments of rush pith in a jar. Seal with yellow wax to prevent air leakage. To use, eat a good meal first, rinse mouth with "rootless water" (rainwater/snowmelt), hold a mouthful of water, chew five cun of scallion white with the water and swallow. Place one pill under the tongue, lie in a warm place, and cover. As the pill melts, slowly swallow the bitter fluid. For severe cases, use 2-3 pills. When the medicine takes effect, profuse sweating like rain occurs, and diseases vanish. In winter cold, if sweating is difficult, push with scallion soup after holding the pill to induce sweat.
For An Ding (hidden boils) that go unnoticed, or those treated too late where toxin enters the interior causing coma or sudden collapse, making oral administration impossible: urgently decoct seven roots of scallion white with mustache in one cup of wine, grind five pills, and administer forcibly. When the medicinal qi reaches the heart, the effect is like snow melting in hot water. The patient wakes up immediately. This is indeed a miraculous formula for surgery; do not neglect it.
Da Bao'an Tang (Great Security Decoction): Indicated for various carbuncles of the head and neck, and malignant ulcers with severe toxicity, after ulceration with excessive discharge of pus, leading to deficiency of qi and blood, shortness of spirit, loss of appetite, restlessness, irritability, insomnia, calmness during the day, fever at night, and deficiency-yang irritability and thirst.
Ingredients: Renshen (Ginseng Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chuanxiong, Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), Shanzhuyu (Corni Fructus), Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Fructus), Huangqi (Astragali Radix, each 1 qian), Shu Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix), Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Gancao (Licorice Root, each 5 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Use three slices of roasted ginger, two jujubes, and seven lotus seeds. Decoct two zhong of water until reduced to 80%. Take before or after meals.
Naojiu Jiu Fa (Moxibustion Method for Naoju): Use the "Riding Bamboo Horse" moxibustion method.
Method One: Measure horizontally from the corner of the mouth to both ear angles with a thread as a standard. Coat the thread with yellow wax. From the patient's neck, hang down to both nipples as a standard, cut the thread. Then, from the back of the patient's neck, hang down along the spine, aligning with the end of the thread as a mark, and mark with ink. Take the previous mouth-measuring thread, and at the ink mark, open horizontally to both sides to the end. These points are the acupoints, marked with ink. Apply moxa to both side points, 3 or 5 moxa cones each. The toxin will naturally subside without severe outbreak, healing gradually.
Another moxibustion method: Moxa Qihai (CV6) for 14 cones (two sevens), and Zusanli (ST36) on both sides for 5 cones each.
