Ancient texts state: If necrotic tissue is not completely removed, regeneration of healthy tissue cannot be discussed. If regenerative medicines are mistakenly used, it will instead increase ulceration. Only when the ulceration is painless is it a sign that such treatment is appropriate. It is also said: Once toxins are exhausted, muscle naturally regenerates. Thus, it is known that necrotic tissue must be removed promptly.
When a swelling toxin has formed but the skin is thick and unruptured, internally administer Tou Nong San (Abscess-Penetrating Powder) and externally apply Xuanzhu Gao (Mysterious Pearl Ointment), covering it with Hei Gao (Black Plaster). Then pus will exude from the pores. Within three to five days, the toxic head will demarcate and fall off in pieces. At this point, the bulk of pus is exhausted, and internal flesh is level. The efficacy is miraculous. Yang syndromes show immediate results, relying heavily on the action of internal support (Nei Tuo).
When toxins are deep and cannot converge, dip a paper wick into Xuanzhu Gao (Mysterious Pearl Ointment) and insert it into the wound cavity. This facilitates convergence and prevents fistula formation.
For Zhang Ding (Traumatic Carbuncle caused by beating), applying this causes blood stasis and necrotic tissue to dissolve immediately. For treating tinea, add Tianmazhi (Cannabis Seed) and crush together, mix with Lushui Mo (Aloe Vera Powder) for external application. For alopecia capitis (bald scalp sores), add several grains of Huajiao (Sichuan Pepper), seven Ya Zao (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit), seven Xingren (Apricot Seed), and a small amount of Aiye (Mugwort Leaf); decoct and use according to method.
Shuiyin (Mercury), Huoxiao (Saltpeter/Potassium Nitrate) (2 liang), Yanshi (Salt) (3 qian), Kufan (Burnt Alum) (3 qian, these three stir-fried until dry), Zhusha (Cinnabar) (8 qian), Xionghuang (Realgar) (3 qian), Baipi (White Arsenic) (3 qian), Pengsha (Borax) (3 qian), plus Sha (Arsenic Sulfide Ore) (3 qian).
Grind all into fine powder. Place in a clay-sealed jar, cover with a bowl, and seal the edges. Place on three nails within a Baiyanlu (Hundred-Eye Furnace). Start with bottom fire two cun high, middle fire one incense stick height, top fire one incense stick height. Continuously wipe the cover bowl with water without stopping. When the incense burns out, remove the fire. On the next day, collect the sublimated substance for use.
For Fa Bei (Back Carbuncle) unruptured, add Huafen (Trichosanthes Root); if ruptured, add Ruxiang (Frankincense) and Moyao (Myrrh). For early-stage Ding Chuang (Carbuncle/Furuncle), add Chansu (Toad Venom). For swelling toxins, add Eguan Shi (Goose Tube Stone). Mix with vinegar for external application. For rotting sores, add Hei Fuzi (Blackened Aconite). For Nang Yong (Scrotal Abscess) with ulceration, add Beimu (Fritillaria Bulb). For Luo Li (Scrofula) with rupture, add Fa Hui (Hair Ash), Zao Jiao (Gleditsia Fruit), and Baiji (Chinese Dioscorea Rhizome). Mix with water for external application. For Gan Chuang (Chancre), add Huashi (Talcum). For Yu Kou (Inguinal Abscess), add Zao Jiao (Gleditsia Fruit). For Jie Du (Syphilitic Gumma), add Guang Fen (Calomel) and Huashi (Talcum). For severe ulcers, add Qing Fen (Calomel) and Huang Dan (Red Lead). For traumatic injuries, cover with Wen Ge (Clam Shell) and Baicao Shuang (Plant Ash). For Ru E (Mumps/Tonsillitis), Zou Ma Gan (Noma Gangrene), and Er Sai (Ear and Cheek Swelling), mix with tea. For snake bites, add Nanxing (Arisaema) and Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper). For insect bites, add Xionghuang (Realgar).
