Yuan Ju (Abyssal Abscess) arises from sorrow and indignation affecting the Liver and Gallbladder. It manifests as hardness, swelling, and pain under the ribs. Upon rupture, it produces sound and penetrates the inner membrane; before rupture, Huma Ling should be administered.
[Note] This condition results from excessive sorrow and indignation, causing injury to both the Liver and Gallbladder. It appears under the ribs, initially hard, swollen but not red. After a long time, it ruptures. The emergence of thick, white pus indicates a favorable prognosis, while pus resembling bean curd water indicates danger. The sound from the wound resembles a child's cry, indicating penetration of the inner membrane. Apply moxibustion with seven moxa cones (two sets of seven) at Yanglingquan (GB34), which stops the sound. This acupoint is located one cun below the outer edge of the patella in the depression, accessible by squatting or sitting. Internal and external treatments are the same as for Rib Abscess. For any abscesses or carbuncles arising in hollow or soft areas such as the ribs, chest, hypochondrium, waist, and abdomen, frequent administration of Humu San during the pre-rupture stage can prevent membrane penetration.
Humu San
Beeswax (Baila) and Bletilla Rhizome (Baiji) in equal parts.
Grind into fine powder. Take one qian for mild cases, two qian for moderate cases, three qian for severe cases, mixed with yellow wine or rice soup.
[Prescription Verse] Humu San contains two ingredients: Beeswax and Bletilla ground into fine powder. Mixed with wine or rice soup, taken beforehand to prevent membrane penetration when pus forms.
Dan Du (Erysipelas) arises from extreme heat in the Liver and Spleen. It presents as red patches like rosy clouds on the upper ribs, waist, and hips. Immediate phlebotomy to release dark purple blood is required; otherwise, vomiting, retching, coma, and distension indicate internal attack by toxins.
[Note] This condition is caused by extreme heat generating wind in the Liver and Spleen meridians. It originates on the ribs and extends to the waist and hips, appearing red like rosy clouds, wandering like clouds, and burning like fire. Immediately perform phlebotomy around the red and swollen area to release dark purple blood, then apply slices of lean beef (or mutton) to reduce toxicity by half. Initially administer Shuangjie Guijin Wan to induce sweating, followed by Huaban Jiedu Tang. If the prescription matches the disease, the prognosis is favorable. However, if vomiting, retching, confusion, chest and abdominal distension, and widespread cyanosis occur, it indicates an adverse prognosis due to internal attack by toxic vapors.
Huaban Jiedu Tang
Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao), Forsythiae Fructum (Lianqiao, heart removed), Arctii Fructus (Niubangzi, fried and ground), Humanis Excrementis Decoctio (Renzhonghuang), Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu), and Panacis Quinquefolii Radix Heishen) each one qian.
Add twenty leaves of Bambusa Leaves (Zhuye) and two bowls of water. Decoct until eight-tenths remain, then take orally.
[Prescription Verse] Huaban Jiedu Tang clears heat and generates wind, causing erysipelas with cloud-like red patches. Cimicifuga, Gypsum, Forsythia, Arctium, Renzhonghuang, Coptis, Anemarrhena, and Panax quinquefolius are combined.
