When there is severe ulceration due to toxic pathogens, if internal toxins are not yet fully cleared and muscle-regenerating medicines are applied hastily, it will result in external solidity but internal continued ulceration. In severe cases, this forces the toxins to attack inward; in mild cases, it merely increases the extent of ulceration. Even if the wound temporarily closes, large carbuncles may reappear around the area. Thus, it is known that when toxins are not exhausted, muscle-regenerating medicines should not be used hastily. Only apply Beiye Gao (Shell Leaf Plaster), changing it frequently, until granulation tissue (muscle pearls) begins to form, at which point muscle-regenerating medicines can be used. For those with weak Yuan Qi (Original Vital Energy), substantial tonification is required to nourish and consolidate the Yuan Qi.
Shengji Dingtong San (Muscle-Regulating and Pain-Stopping Powder): This powder treats ulcerations with redness, heat, swelling, pain, and putrid flesh; it is used to resolve putrid flesh, stop pain, and promote muscle growth.
