Flesh rot refers to necrotic tissue. Various texts state: if necrotic flesh is not removed, new flesh will not grow. This is because necrotic tissue can infiltrate and damage healthy flesh, so it must be removed quickly. For patients with strong constitution, surgical excision with a knife is effective; for patients with weak constitution, reliance is placed solely on medicinal power to dissolve the necrosis. Generally, debridement medicines are essential in surgery.
Baijiang Dan (White Descending Cinnabar): This cinnabar treats carbuncles, back infections, and all types of ding toxic sores. Use a small amount. For large sores, use 5-6 li; for small sores, use 1-2 li. Mix with water and apply to the sore head. In the initial stage, it dissipates immediately; when pus forms, it ulcerates immediately; necrotic tissue detaches, swelling subsides. It is truly a life-saving spiritual cinnabar.
Zhusha (Cinnabar), Xionghuang (Realgar) (each 2 qian), Shuiyin (Mercury) (1 liang), Pengsha (Borax) (5 qian), Huoxiao (Saltpeter), Yanshi (Salt), Baifan (Alum), Zaofan (Green Vitriol) (each 1 liang 5 qian).
First, grind Zhusha, Xionghuang, and Pengsha finely. Add salt, alum, saltpeter, green vitriol, and mercury, grinding together until uniform, stopping when no mercury stars are visible. Place one Yangcheng jar on mild charcoal fire, slowly adding the medicine to melt completely in the jar. Use mild fire to drive off moisture and retrieve. If the fire is too large and dry, mercury escapes; if not dry enough, the medicine falls and becomes useless; this is the difficulty. Cover with another Yangcheng jar. Cut cotton paper into half-inch strips. Grind jar mud, straw shoe ash, and guangfen (white powder) finely. Mix with salt brine juice until very wet. Apply alternating layers of mud and paper, four to five layers at the seal, and two to three layers on the jar containing medicine. Dig a small pit underground, place a rice bowl filled with water at the bottom. Place the empty jar inside the bowl. Align tiles around the pit mouth to the ground to prevent charcoal ash from falling into the bowl. Cover the medicated jar with live charcoal fire, ensuring no gaps. After approximately three incense sticks' time, extinguish fire and let cool before opening. Approximately one liang of external medicine remains. If green smoke rises during refining, immediately use a brush dipped in jar salt mud to seal it.
Hongsheng Dan (Red Ascending Cinnabar): This cinnabar treats post-ulceration of all sores and ulcers, drawing out toxins, removing necrosis, generating muscle, and promoting flesh growth. For hard sore mouths and dark purple-black flesh, apply a small amount of cinnabar. Sweep onto the area with a chicken feather; it immediately becomes red and vibrant. Surgeons without Red and White cinnabars cannot achieve immediate effects.
Zhusha (Cinnabar) (5 qian), Xionghuang (Realgar) (5 qian), Shuiyin (Mercury) (1 liang), Huoxiao (Saltpeter) (4 liang), Baifan (Alum) (1 liang), Zaofan (Green Vitriol) (6 qian).
First, crush both alums and saltpeter. Place in a large copper spoon, add a small cup of saltpeter, stew until melted, remove when dry, and grind finely. Separately, grind mercury, cinnabar, and realgar finely until no stars are visible. Then mix with the nitrate-alum powder and grind uniformly. Coat a Yangcheng jar with paper-joint mud to a thickness of one finger, air dry, and gently tap occasionally to prevent cracks. Jar mud can also be used. If cracks appear, patch with jar mud, dry thoroughly, and sun-dry. Only when crack-free, insert the previous medicines. Seal the jar mouth with an iron oil lamp cover, add an iron beam lamp, and tightly bind top and bottom with iron wire. Dip twisted cotton paper strips in honey, stuff into the jar mouth seams. Externally seal with cooked gypsum fine powder mixed with vinegar. Place two charcoal fires on the lamp to heat it, aiding drying of the seal. Drive three large nails into the ground, place the jar on the nails, put a large solid charcoal fire under the jar, build a hundred-eye furnace around it, and refine for three incense sticks. The first incense stick uses bottom fire; if too hot, mercury flies up first. The second incense stick uses fire filling more than half the jar; wipe the lamp with a water-dipped brush. The third incense stick has fire level with the jar mouth; fan it, frequently wiping the lamp, do not let it dry, or mercury will fly up first. After three incense sticks, extinguish fire, let cool, and open. The medicinal qi is sufficient. There should be about 6-7 qian on the lamp lid. Scrape off, grind extremely fine, and store in a porcelain jar. Pre-mix salt brine juice with jar mud, brush around the jar mouth with a brush to prevent gas leakage. This is to prevent green smoke rising and mercury escaping; once green smoke appears, it is useless.
[Formula Song]: Baijiang Dan is the life-saving cinnabar, draining pus and resolving necrosis brings instant peace, Cinnabar, Realgar, Mercury, and Borax enter, plus Saltpeter, Salt, White Alum, Green Vitriol. Remove Borax and Salt to make Hongsheng Dan, generating flesh and muscle is naturally not difficult.
Yuanzhu Gao (Pearl Paste): This paste treats abscesses about to ulcerate; applying it draws pus out through pores. For already opened needle holes, dip a swab and insert into the hole. It calls out pus and necrosis; if impure, applying it resolves it immediately.
Mubiezi meat (14 seeds), Banmao (Mylabris Beetle) (81 insects), Liuzhi (Willow Branch) (49 cun), Lvjiapian (Donkey-hide gelatin slice) (3 qian), Caowu (Aconitum kusnezoffii Root) (1 qian), Mayou (Hemp Seed Oil) (2 liang).
Soak the above medicines for seven days. Fry with gentle fire until withered, remove dregs. Add three Baiduoren (Castor Bean Kernels), fry until black. Pour into a mortar, grind into paste. Add Shexiang (Musk) 1 fen, mix evenly, and store in a jar.
[Formula Song]: Calling out pus and resolving necrosis uses Yuanzhu, Spurge seed, Mylabris, and Willow branch together, Donkey-hide and Aconite soaked in oil, fried with Withered Castor Bean and Musk applied.
