Place the powder of *Scolopendra* (Centipede) into a shell of *Venerupis philippinarum* (Clam), seal it with paper, and paste seven layers of Xizhi (mulberry bark paper) on the outside. Dry it in the sun, then stir-fry it with bran until the paper turns black and charred. Remove the paper, grind the contents into an extremely fine powder, add one fen of *Moschus* (Musk), grind uniformly again, and mix with aged vinegar to form a thick paste. Apply warm to the area of hard nodules, cover with thin paper externally, and change once daily.
[Prescription Song] Jinbei San is applied to hard scrofula; Scolopendra powder is placed in clam shells, sealed with paper, dried, and stir-fried with bran. Adding musk and grinding, then mixing with vinegar makes it effective.
Shengong San treats scrofula caused by damp-toxin, applying it yields miraculous effects.
Prepared *Aconitum carmichaelii* root lateral side (Chuanwu) and tender *Phellodendron amurense* bark (Huangbai) in equal parts.
Grind together into a fine powder, mix with rice vinegar to form a thick paste. Apply warm to the swollen area, changing once daily.
[Prescription Song] Shengong San applies to damp scrofula; tender Huangbai and Chuanwu are ground equally into powder, mixed with rice vinegar, and applied to the swelling for cure.
Li Gao's Longquan San treats various types of scrofula; those not yet formed will dissipate, those already formed will suppurate.
Wafen (i.e., Dinfen/Lead carbonate), Longquafen (powder from whetstones), *Curcuma zedoaria* rhizome (Ezhu, soaked in wine and stir-fried dry), *Bupleurum chinense* root (Sanleng, soaked in wine and stir-fried dry), *Laminaria japonica* thallus (Kunbu, cleaned of soil, washed in wine, each 5 qian).
Grind all together into an extremely fine powder, mix with boiling water, and apply to the affected area. This method dissipates hardness especially quickly.
[Prescription Song] Li Gao's Longquan San applies to various scrofula; Wafen, Longquafen, Ezhu, and Sanleng, along with Kunbu, are ground into fine powder and applied with boiling water for rapid effect.
Zhu Zhenheng's Scrofula-Pasting Cake treats scrofula in the neck region, regardless of skin color, size, or duration, even if red, hard, swollen, and painful, application is effective.
Raw *Dioscorea opposita* tuber (Shanyao) and flesh of *Ricinus communis* seed (Bimazi).
Equal parts, pounded evenly and spread for application.
[Prescription Song] Zhenheng's Scrofula Paste can be moved; Ricinus and Dioscorea are ground into mud. Regardless of long duration or swelling/hardness, making cakes for application yields wondrous effects.
Shenxiao Scrofula Formula treats early-stage scrofula, reducing swelling and relieving pain.
*Boswellia carterii* gum resin (Baijiaoxiang), *Sepia esculenta* bone (Haipiaoxiao), *Dalbergia odorifera* wood (Xiangzhuxiang, heartwood free of earthy smell).
Equal parts, ground into powder, mixed with warm water to form a thick paste, spread thinly on paper for application.
[Prescription Song] Shenxiao Scrofula is a good formula, strongly disperses stagnation, reduces swelling, and relieves pain. Effective before ulceration, composed of Baijiaoxiang, Haipiaoxiao, and Xiangzhuxiang.
Longzhu Gao (Dragon Pearl Ointment)
*Agrimonia pilosa* herb (Longyacao, i.e., *Verbena officinalis*, 5 liang), *Ziziphus jujuba* root (Jizao gen, 5 qian), *Sargassum fusiforme* thallus (Haizao, 2.5 qian), *Pterocarpus santalinus* wood (Sumu, 5 qian).
Finely chop the above, add 20 bowls of water, decoct until 12-13 bowls remain, strain. Take 2.5 bowls each of mulberry branch ash, *Xanthium strumarium* herb ash, and calcined gypsum/mineral ash (Duanshi). Line a sieve bottom with two layers of paper, place the three ashes inside, and pour boiling water over them to leach out 10 bowls of ash juice. Clarify this juice, combine with the previous decoction, and boil down into an ointment. Add small amounts of *Croton tiglium* seed frost (Badoushuang), *Os bidentis* (Baidingxiang), *Gypsum fibrosum* (Shigao), *Moschus* (Shexiang), and *Calomel* (Qingfen), grind finely, mix into the ointment, and store in porcelain jars. Apply to the nodule. For subsequent applications, remove old medicine; the nodule will then suppurate. For smaller roots, apply only to the root, and the nodule will spontaneously suppurate.
[Prescription Song] Longzhu Gao applies to scrofula toxic sores; good for slow or un-suppurated cases. Haizao, Sumu, Longyacao, plus Zao root decocted together. Mulberry stone and Xanthium ash leached water, boiled into ointment with musk. Shigao, Baodingxiang, Qingfen, Badou, ground into ointment for strong scrofula treatment.

Chansu Nianzi (Toad Venom Wick)
*Bufonius venenum* (Chansu, piece the size of a soybean), *Os bidentis* (Baidingxiang, 15 grains), *Aqua calcariae* (Hanshuishi, piece the size of a soybean), *Croton tiglium* seed (Badou, shelled, 10 grains), Han Shi Mian (Cold Food Flour, piece the size of a soybean).
Grind each finely, mix together and grind uniformly, roll into wicks using refined honey. Use one wick per application. Puncture a hole at the apex of the scrofula with a needle, insert the wick into the hole, and cover with Lüyun Gao. Insert continuously for three days, then change only the plaster. After several days, the stubborn root will naturally detach. Effect is achieved when pus is clean and hardness recedes. If hardness remains, continue use until completely resolved.
[Prescription Song] Chansu Ni Zi is a formula for resolving hardness; inserted into the sore as scrofula is about to suppurate. Hanshuishi combined with Badou flesh, Han Shi Mian and Baidingxiang.
Wuyun Gao specifically treats rat-chase, horse-knife, and post-ulceration scrofula.
Yinyouzi (crushed, 4 liang), Huangdan (calcined, 8 liang), Sesame oil (Xiangyou, 20 liang).

When "pearl flowers" appear, remove dregs and filter through cloth. Return oil to the pot, slowly sift in Huangdan while stirring constantly with the five branches until a drop forms a bead in cold water. Remove and store. Do not expose to fire when using; melt in a double boiler, spread on red silk for application.
[Prescription Song] Wuyun Gao applies to rat-chase syndrome, post-ulceration scrofula and horse-knife. Yinyouzi boiled in oil, dregs filtered clear, Huangdan stirred into ointment with five branches.

Boil again in a crucible several times, let cool slightly. Mix in bile of three pigs, 3 qian of *Viridians cupri acetum* (Tonglü), which has been soaked overnight in 1 liang of vinegar, then filtered. Combine into the ointment, stir with willow branch until cold. Melt in a double boiler when using, spread on thin paper for application; very effective.
