Grind the above herbs together into slices, sun-dry them until extremely dry, grind continuously three times using a large donkey mill, then sieve out the powder using fine silk gauze, store in porcelain vessels tightly sealed to prevent leakage. Whenever encountering red, hot, swollen, and painful conditions where pus has not yet formed, or during the summer heat season, mix with tea soup and honey for external application; if there is slight heat and swelling, or large sores have formed and are about to suppurate, mix with scallion soup and honey for external application; for diffuse swelling without a head, unchanged skin color, belonging to flowing toxicity of damp-phlegm, osteomyelitis (fuguju), crane knee disease (he xifeng), etc., decoct with scallion wine and mix for external application; for those generated by wind-heat toxic factors, where the affected skin is intensely hot, bright red, and migratory in shape, mix with honey water for external application; for bullae, huodan, chiyou dan (migratory erysipelas), yellow-water lacquer dermatitis, evil blood attacking and injecting, etc., crush Isatis Root leaves into juice and mix for external application, adding honey is also acceptable; for burns from boiling water or fire with broken skin, mix with sesame oil for external application.

Treats yin-type back abscesses that do not swell high, are not painful, do not fever, do not suppurate, as well as cold-damp flowing injection, chronic damage from drum wind, cold pain bi syndrome, gouty arthritis due to dampness, numbness of hands and feet, bone and joint pain, and all conditions with unchanged skin color, diffuse swelling without a head, crane knee disease, etc., provided there is no red skin or hot muscle, generally applicable with efficacy.
Aconite (stir-fried, 3 liang): Ginger (roasted, 3 liang): Red Peony (stir-fried): Angelica Dahurica: Arisaema (roasted, each 1 liang): Cinnamon Twig (5 qian).
After preparation, grind all into fine powder, mix with hot wine for external application. This ointment contains Ginger and Cinnamon Twig, which warm the blood and generate blood. Since it generates blood and creates heat, it might fail to dissipate and cause harm; thus, Aconite and Arisaema are included to break evil qi, dispel wind-toxicity, revive dead tissue, eliminate bone pain, dissolve nodules, and restore yang qi; Red Peony and Angelica Dahurica sufficiently dissipate stagnant blood and stop pain; added wine promotes drug action, attacks and unblocks qi and blood. Even for severe cold syndromes, recovery is inevitable. This is truly the flame in cold ashes, the spring in dead wood. Generally, cold diseases cause Yin decay of muscles, leading to insensitivity to pain and itch; those with pain are often deep-seated bone pain. If not removed, the cold root penetrates the marrow, beyond the reach of ordinary medicines.

Grind into fine powder, mix with scallion soup or hot wine for external application. In this medicine, Chinese Privet Bark is the essence of Wood, capable of breaking qi, driving out blood, reducing swelling; Pubescent Angelica is the essence of Earth, agitating stagnant blood vessels, dispersing cold pain in bones, removing numbness and dampness; Acorus is the essence of Water, good at breaking hardness, generating blood, stopping pain, dispersing wind and reducing swelling; Angelica Dahurica is the essence of Metal, capable of expelling wind, generating flesh, stabilizing pain; Red Peony is the essence of Fire, capable of generating and activating blood, dissipating stasis, removing pain. Since blood generation prevents muscle death and blood movement ensures meridian flow, muscles remain active without rotting or pain, and meridians stay unobstructed without congestion or swelling. This is an excellent medicine for dispersing wind, moving qi, activating blood, reducing swelling, dispelling cold, and softening hardness. The combination of Five Elements ensures efficacy, especially for flowing toxicity, bone abscesses, and cold syndromes.
Iron Bucket Ointment

Grind into extremely fine powder, take one cup of aged rice vinegar, slowly boil in a spoon over low heat until reduced to a small cup, waiting for golden-yellow bubbles to rise. When warm, mix in one qian of the above powder into the paste. Apply warm each time, use a new brush to paint the ointment on the base of the sore, cover the base with cotton paper, causing wrinkles to form, gradually tightening until expansion stops, indicating effectiveness.
Boiling Suction Tube Formula
The miraculous suction tube formula uses Notopterygium, Pubescent Angelica, Perilla, Qiai, Acorus.
Licorice, Angelica Dahurica, fresh scallions, etc., one tube pulls back the life talisman.
Treats back abscesses that have formed and are about to ulcerate, where pus and toxin cannot exit externally, must attack internally, causing irritability and heaviness like carrying a stone. Only this method of pulling and lifting the toxic vapor can facilitate its exit.
Notopterygium: Pubescent Angelica: Perilla: Qiai (Mugwort): Fresh Acorus: Licorice: Angelica Dahurica (each 5 qian): Scallions with roots (2 liang).
Pre-select a section of fresh tender bamboo with an inner diameter of 1.2-1.3 cun, seven cun long, keeping one node intact. Forcefully remove the outer green skin, retaining half of the inner white layer, approximately one fen thick. Drill a small hole near the node, plug tightly with a wooden wedge, place the aforementioned herbs inside the tube, plug the tube mouth with scallions, place the tube horizontally in a pot, press down to prevent floating. Submerge ten bowls of clear water, boil several times until the internal herbs are cooked and concentrated, then set aside for use. Use a lancet to make three puncture holes in a triangular pattern within one cun of the abscess apex, inserting shallowly about one cun deep, roughly within the tube's circumference. Place the medicinal tube with broth in a large porcelain bowl beside the patient's bed. Pour out the tube contents, immediately press the hot tube mouth against the sore, hold firmly with hand, allowing natural suction. Wait briefly until the tube warms up, remove the wooden plug, and the tube will detach naturally. Examine the discharged material; if pus and blood are sticky, bright red and yellow, amounting to one or two cups, the disease is a living sore and will surely heal with treatment. If the discharged material is purely foul-smelling necrotic blood, purple-black thin fluid, without sticky pus, the disease involves internal failure of qi and blood, inactive muscles, indicating a dead sore; forced treatment will be futile. This family method has proven effective repeatedly. For yang sores that easily ulcerate and suppurate, this method should not be used to injure qi and blood. It is intended for yin sores, ideally applied around fifteen days before expected progression, for hard, non-ulcerating, non-suppurating cases. This method indeed has heaven-restoring effects and is indispensable for physicians.
Pig Trotter Soup
Pig Trotter Soup contains Notopterygium, Licorice, Red Peony, Scutellaria, Angelica Dahurica, Angelica Sinensis.
Adding Honeycomb is even better; washing all sores sheds their mundane attire.
Use this soup to wash when carbuncles and various toxins have ulcerated and are discharging pus, to disinfect toxic vapors, remove bad flesh, revive dead tissue, moisturize sore edges, disperse wind, reduce swelling, stopping once putrefaction is complete.
Notopterygium: Licorice: Red Peony: Scutellaria: Angelica Dahurica: Angelica Sinensis: Honeycomb (equal parts).
Grind into coarse powder, determine dosage based on the size of the abscess. First, boil one front pig trotter in six bowls of clear water until soft, filter the broth, blow away oil scum, add one liang of the herbal powder, simmer gently for ten boils, filter through fine silk gauze to remove dregs. When the soup is half-hot, dip soft silk gauze into the soup and pour over the sore, gently wipe away purulent and necrotic tissue, allowing foul matter to drain with the soup. After washing, dry with silk cloth, and apply medications according to the general discussion sequence.
Additionally: Washing Medicine Formula
Washing Medicine Formula contains Angelica Sinensis, Pubescent Angelica, Scallion Bulbs, Angelica Dahurica, Licorice.
For carbuncles where putrefaction is complete, this washing promotes flesh regeneration, often praised.
Angelica Sinensis: Pubescent Angelica: Angelica Dahurica: Licorice (each 2 qian): Scallion Bulbs (5 pieces).
Use three bowls of water, decoct until herbs are mushy, filter clearly, dip silk cloth in the liquid to wipe the sore clean, then apply Red or Black Ointments as dressing. Avoid wind and cold during washing. Often used for mild back sores as a substitute for Pig Trotter Soup, equally effective.

Take the above ten ingredients plus locust and willow branches, soak in five jin of pure sesame oil. Soak for five days in spring, three in summer, seven in autumn, ten in winter. When days are complete, put into a clean large pot, simmer gently until herbs float and wither. Stop fire for a moment, filter dregs through a cloth bag, weigh the oil accurately, clean the pot, filter oil again through fine old silk into the pot for cleanliness. Add human hair, simmer gently until hair floats, pick with willow stick to check if it resembles melted plaster, indicating readiness.
For one jin of purified oil, slowly add six liang five qian of calcined Lead Monoxide, increase fire slightly. In hot summer and autumn, add five qian of monoxide per jin of oil, stirring constantly. Wait for blue smoke first, then white smoke rising in layers, with fragrant aroma, indicating the plaster is formed. Immediately stop fire, drop plaster into water to test consistency. If too hard, add mature oil; if too thin, add fried monoxide slightly, gradually increasing fire, aiming for appropriate hardness in winter and summer. When smoke ceases, remove from heat, add Asarum sliced thinly, scatter on plaster surface to melt completely; next add frankincense, myrrh, calomel, stir evenly, pour into water, gather into a block with willow stick, soak in cold water for a while. While warm, take half a jin of plaster, pull and fold a hundred times into a block, soak in cold water again. When needed, take a piece, melt in a copper spoon, and apply as desired.

For large sores, wash and change twice morning and evening, internally take large tonifying spleen-stomach warming medicines, facilitating easy shedding of necrotic flesh, rapid growth of new flesh, and spontaneous closure of sore edges. This is the divine medicine among surgical astringents.
Angelica Dahurica (5 qian): Licorice (1.2 liang): Angelica Sinensis (2 liang): Blood Clot: Calomel (each 4 qian): White Beeswax (2 liang): Lithospermum (2 qian): Sesame Oil (1 jin).
First, soak Angelica Sinensis, Licorice, Lithospermum, and Angelica Dahurica in oil for three days. Calomel: Hemp Seed (ground, each 3 qian): Blood Clot (2 qian): Velvet Bean (ground, white kernel, 5 qian): Borneol (1 qian): Golden-Topped Arsenic (5 fen): Snail Meat (dried meat ground into powder, 2 pieces).
