(Attached: Dog Bites and Snake Bites)
A person was bitten by a dog. The pain was severe and distressing. The physician ordered immediate suction to remove the toxic blood. Garlic moxibustion (moxibustion with garlic slices placed between the skin and the moxa cone) was applied to the affected area for several cones, and the pain ceased immediately. Taiyi Ointment (Taiyi Gao) was then applied topically, and Yuzhen Powder (Yuzhen San) was administered orally, resulting in recovery.
Another person was bitten by a rabid dog. There was trismus (lockjaw) and unconsciousness. Acupuncture was performed urgently on the affected area to release toxic blood, followed by prolonged garlic moxibustion, after which the patient regained consciousness. Taiyi Ointment was applied as a dressing, and two doses of Yuzhen Powder were drunk.
After slight recovery, two additional doses of Jiedu San (Detoxification Powder, see Entry 110) were administered, leading to full convalescence. In severe cases, Suhexiang Wan (Styrax Pills) should be forced down first, followed by decoctions.
The *Zhenjiu Jing* (Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) states: Waixiu (GB36) treats rabies, specifically symptoms such as chills and fever following a bite from a mad dog. Three cones of moxibustion should be applied rapidly, followed by moxibustion on the wound site, resulting in immediate cure. In late spring and early summer, if bitten by a rabid dog, one must wait until one hundred days have passed to find peace. One must strictly avoid consuming dog meat and silkworm pupae for life; ingestion will trigger the disease, which is incurable. It is advisable to first remove the evil blood, apply ten cones of moxibustion to the bite site. From the next day onwards, apply one cone daily until one hundred days are completed. Avoid alcohol for seven days. Crush fresh leek juice (one or two cups) and use it to suck out the evil blood from rabid dog bites; applying one hundred cones of moxibustion is effective.
To treat a snake entering the seven orifices, urgently burn the snake's tail with moxibustion. (Another method): Make a small incision in the snake's tail with a knife, insert seven grains of Sichuan pepper (Huajiao), and the snake will exit spontaneously. Immediately prepare a decoction of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen Tang) mixed with Realgar powder (Xionghuang Sha Mo) and administer it orally to resolve internal toxicity.
Mountain dwellers bitten by snakes should urgently wash the affected area with urine, dry it, and apply moxibustion. This is highly effective. Another prescription: Place a slice of single-clove garlic on the affected area and apply moxibustion on top of the garlic. Replace the garlic every three cones of moxibustion; this is effective.
A person was stung by a scorpion on the hand. The pain penetrated to the heart, and within moments spread to the axilla, accompanied by chills, fever, limb stiffness, headache, and nausea. This resulted from the struggle between pathogenic factors and healthy qi. Feilong Duoming Dan (Flying Dragon Life-Rescuing Pill) was applied topically, and analgesics were administered orally, but neither worked. Subsequently, garlic moxibustion was applied, leading to recovery.
Later, another person was stung similarly; applying moxibustion as before stopped the pain immediately.
A person was bitten by a centipede on the finger and also recovered using the aforementioned method.
Injuries caused by various venomous creatures such as snakes can all be effectively treated according to these methods. Materia Medica texts state that garlic has the power to revive the dying when treating sores and toxins.
A hunter had his leg bitten by a wild wolf, causing severe pain. Treatment with Ruxiang Dingtong San (Frankincense Pain-Stopping Powder) was ineffective. I reasoned that due to the location being in the lower part of the body (the realm of extreme yin), qi and blood were congealed, making it difficult for medicinal efficacy to reach the site. Garlic moxibustion was applied for over fifty cones, eliminating the pain. Toli medicines (supporting interior therapies) and plasters were then used, resulting in recovery.
A person was bitten on the leg by a fighting dog. Within moments, the pain radiated to the thigh. The next day, trismus occurred. Yuzhen Powder was ineffective. After more than thirty cones of garlic moxibustion, the patient regained consciousness. Recovery was achieved by administering Yuzhen Powder (see Entry 123) along with Tuoli Xiaodu medicines (interior-supporting detoxification agents).
For injuries from various insects, take a piece of Alum (Baifan), sun-dry it from morning to evening on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, and store it. When needed, grind it into powder, mix with water, and apply to the affected area; the pain stops immediately.
