In the treatment of such wounds, if the trachea and esophagus are not injured, it is easy to cure. However, the trachea is located in front of the esophagus; anatomically, the left side is often anterior to the right. Therefore, if a cut is made with the left hand, it is likely to sever the trachea, which is a critical condition. The treatment method is the same: first use protective agents for the trachea and bandaging fixation methods. Following this method can lead to recovery. However, if the pulse is surging, rapid, and irregular (lacking proper rhythm), it indicates a syndrome of Qi collapse. If, after administering the tracheal protective agent, the pulse becomes calm and steady, there is still hope for survival. Generally, throughout the course of the illness, a fine pulse with four beats per respiration indicates that Stomach Qi is preserved, making recovery easier. If the incision at the Adam's apple is located in the middle three segments, or if it is above or below where bandaging fixation cannot be applied, death is inevitable. However, areas in the upper, middle, lower, and lateral regions where bandaging fixation can be used may be saved, depending on the severity. For severe cases, success depends entirely on the effectiveness of the bandaging site. After one shi (two hours) of taking the tracheal protective agent, connection can be achieved. This medicine is applied only once; whether connection succeeds or fails determines life or death. If the patient can speak softly and take liquid medicine after connection, they will survive; otherwise, they cannot be saved. If half of the liquid medicine leaks out within half a shi, by the next day it will stop leaking and the trachea will have connected. If leakage persists, urgently remove the old dressing by hand, apply the tracheal protective agent again, and connection will surely occur. In summary, the first application must be meticulous without any risk of leakage; life or death will be determined on the second day. On the third day, if the taste of pine resin is no longer perceived in the mouth, the tracheal suture has healed. Although eating is possible, ensuring smooth bowel movements is essential. Internal medication focuses on repairing tendons, nourishing blood, resolving phlegm, aiding digestion, and dispelling blood stasis. The following three formulas should be taken sequentially. Avoid Sichuan pepper, ginger, garlic, stomach, and lungs. Because Qi and Blood are stagnant and rebellious in the Lungs, purgation is preferred over tonification. Only boiled lean pork, kidneys, black carp, stewed crucian carp, and sweet soy sauce are suitable; vegetables should never be fried.
Bandaging Fixation Method
Use an old head wrap, tied to a width of two cun and five fen, ensuring it is flat and upright. Soften thick bark paper, place two layers of cloth on the head wrap, then spread the tracheal protective agent on the paper to facilitate adhesion. If velvet is unavailable, replace it with the golden hair from *Cibotium barometz*. Three or four courageous assistants should help the patient sit upright with the head slightly tilted back, observing that the trachea is aligned vertically. Align the medicated head wrap with the wound and press it together firmly. It is crucial to prevent air from blowing away the powder. Tilt the head slightly forward to secure the dressing without shaking. Tie the head wrap securely in two places at the sides of the neck. The wrap must be flat and upright; if it sinks into the wound, the internal trachea will separate and fail to connect. At the moment of closure, carefully assess whether the internal trachea is aligned and connected. If misaligned or detached, internal airflow will be blocked. Initially tie tightly for seven or eight parts, then loosen slightly; the tightness must be appropriate. Place half a jin of thick fireproof paper behind the head to support an upright posture. Bind with white cloth in two places at the neck to prevent the head from tilting sideways. To prevent neck weakness, lie on a grass mat with the back elevated and a pillow with a concave center and raised sides to keep the neck curved rather than straight. As new flesh grows, gradually straighten the neck. When the head gains strength, remove one layer of white cloth; as the fireproof paper softens, flip and retie. After more than half a day, when the trachea is about to reconnect, apply hemostatic, tissue-regenerating, and tendon-bone-repairing medicine, followed by a layer of velvet on top, similar to the previous application method. This is also applied only once. If the scent of pine resin is absent the next day, the internal trachea has solidified, and then apply tissue-regenerating medicine. For cases with significant new flesh growth or difficulty in regeneration, applying *Yuhong Gao* (Jade Red Ointment) promises recovery. However, prioritizing the connection of the internal trachea is urgent; external hemostasis and tissue regeneration are secondary and easier.

Tracheal Protective Agent
*Song Xiang* (Pini Resina) (refined finely according to method), *Zhen San Qi* (Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (sliced thin, dried, powdered), *Gou Teng Gou* (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis) (lightly roasted), *Qian Cao Mo* (Rubiae Radix et Rhizoma Powder), *Tian E Rong* (Velvet), *Rou Lao Shu* (Meat Mouse) (three or four hairless specimens, pounded into cakes, dried in shade against a wall, powdered).
Process each into fine powder for use. Each dose uses refined *Song Xiang* 1 qian, *San Qi* 2 fen, *Rou Lao Shu* 2 fen, *Gou Teng* 2 fen, *Qian Cao* 2 fen. Grind together into powder and store in a porcelain bottle. When using, remember to add a layer of uncrushed *Tian E Rong* on top of the medicine so it contacts the trachea first for adhesion. If *Tian E Rong* is unavailable, use *Cibotium barometz* hair. This formula contains only six ingredients but is miraculous; however, its single application determines life or death, as a second application is not feasible.
Hemostatic, Tissue-Regenerating, and Tendon-Bone-Repairing Agent
High-quality clean *Ji Gu Tan* (Chicken Bone Charcoal) (select finest powder resembling the thickness of a middle finger from silver ash), *Sheng Nen Song Xiang* (Fresh Tender Pini Resina) (lightly ground, mixed with *Cibotium barometz* hair. More hair facilitates adhesion).
Mix the two powders equally. When applying, place a layer of *Tian E Rong* on the medicine, similar to the previous bandaging method. Apply this after more than half a day when the trachea is nearing reconnection. Apply only once.
Tissue-Regenerating Agent
*Sheng Nen Song Xiang* (Fresh Tender Pini Resina) (amount unspecified, mix with appropriate *Cibotium barometz* hair to grind finely, 1 liang), *Zhen Gua Er Xue Jie* (Dragon's Blood) (finely ground, 1 qian), *Ru Xiang* (Olibanum) (finely ground, 3 qian).
Grind the three powders together uniformly. Apply as before. This medicine can be used regularly; change every two to three days in winter. For difficult regeneration, apply *Yuhong Gao* (Jade Red Ointment) for certain cure.
Unstoppable Bleeding from Metal Wounds
*Pu Huang* (Pollen Typhae) 5 qian, powdered and taken with hot wine, or applied as *Mu Li Fen* (Ostreae Concha Powder) to stop bleeding.
Another prescription: Apply *Bai La Mo* (Cera Alba Powder); bleeding stops immediately, and healing occurs.
Arrowhead Injury
Apply *Hai Piao Xiao Mo* (Sepiae Endoconcha Powder).
Removing Arrowheads
Apply *Bai Xiang Ya Mo* (White Ivory Powder) mixed with water around the wound; the arrowhead will emerge spontaneously. Alternatively, apply *Hua Rui Shi Mo* (Corallinites Powder) around the wound.
Yuhong Gao (Jade Red Ointment)
Take 2 liang of pure sesame oil (*Ma You*), boil until rolling, skim off foam. After two or three boils, add 1 liang or 8 qian of old yellow beeswax (*Lao Huang La*). In winter, stir until melted. Boil five or six times, remove, and place in a porcelain container. Stir in cold water three to five times to release heat. Quickly add the following fine powders:
*Qing Fen Mo* (Calamina Powder) (8 fen), *Fei Dan* (Red Lead Oxide) (3 fen), *Zhen Zhu* (Margarita) (freshly ground extremely fine, 3 fen), *Huang Bai Mo* (Phellodendri Cortex Powder) (3 fen, raw), *Xiang Pi* (Elephant Skin) (roasted lightly on Yin-Yang tiles until slightly brittle and fragrant, then ground fine, 3 fen. Substitute with ivory powder if unavailable).
Grind these five fine powders together uniformly and incorporate into the wax oil while stirring continuously. Cool and store in a porcelain container. Before use, spread thinly on mulberry bark paper and apply.
