(Also known as Bai Bo.)
Initially, there is slight itching inside the hair. After a long time, white dandruff gradually appears, flaking off in layers; after falling off, it grows again. This is transformed from wind-heat pathogenic factors. Lingling Xiang (Lingering Fragrance), Guanbai... [Text missing/corrupted here] ... If there is dryness and itching extending to the face, eyes, ears, and neck, one should refer to the treatment of "Facial Oil Wind" described later for management.
(Also known as Gui Ti Ci, commonly known as Hair Loss.)
The hair is dry and brittle, falling out in patches. The scalp is red and shiny, with severe itching. This is caused by blood dryness combined with wind pathogenic factors. Hair is considered the surplus of blood; the Kidney governs the hair, and the Spleen governs blood. Huangjianzhong Tang (Yellow Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is the primary formula. In cases where hair loss is accompanied by pain below the umbilicus, Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) added with Shudihuang (Prepared Rehmannia Root) and Lujiaojiao (Deer Antler Glue) should be used. Take three qian dissolved in pure alcohol every morning. Although there are many external treatments, since the disease root is complex and deeply entrenched, internal treatment remains essential.
1. For Bai Tu (White Baldness) with no hair: Use four liang of Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper), soak in wine, store in a porcelain vessel, seal tightly to prevent leakage of aroma, and apply daily.
2. For Chi Tu (Red Baldness) with no hair: Burn ox horn and sheep horn to ash in equal parts, mix with pig fat, and apply topically.
3. For post-illness hair loss: Decoct Houjiang (likely referring to a specific herb or preparation, possibly related to ginger or similar warming herbs) and Yeqiangwei (Wild Rose Branch) branches, and brush the juice onto the affected area.
4. For baldness where hair does not grow: Take a handful of tender ziziphus jujuba bark, chop into pieces about one chi long, insert them fully into an empty porcelain bottle without touching the bottom. Ignite the top; juice will drip from the bottom into the bottle. First, wash the head with hot water, then brush this juice onto the bald spot; hair will regrow.
5. For yellowish-red hair: Burn yangshi (sheep feces) to ash, mix with lard (pig fat from the twelfth lunar month), and apply. Apply three times a day and once at night, until the hair turns black.
6. For dry and lusterless hair: Comb hair with oil infused with Mugua (Chaenomeles fruit), or frequently apply Humayou (Sesame oil). A comb made of Huangyangmu (Buxus sinica wood) is preferred.
7. For premature graying in youth: Pluck the white hairs, apply white honey into the hair follicles, and then apply juice extracted from Wutongzi (Sterculia lychnophora seeds); black hair will surely grow. Another prescription: Place qingyangshi (green sheep feces) inside a crucian carp, seal in a clay pot with mud, burn to ash, and apply; hair will grow easily and turn black, with excellent efficacy.
8. For lice on the head: Mix shuiyin (Mercury) with tea leaves until moist and pounded together until the mercury is no longer visible. Stuff into the hair; lice will be eliminated within a few days. Another prescription: Dust with Tonglü (Malachite) and Mingfan (Alum), or dust with Lilü powder; both are excellent.
