A red mass grows inside the cheek of a child, preventing them from nursing; this condition is named *Tanglangzi* (Mantis Child). Use five qian of Shengdi Huang (Rehmanniae Radix), soaked in wine and pounded into a paste, applied to the sole of the foot. For boys, apply to the left foot; for girls, to the right foot. Secure with cloth, replace when dry, and continue until cured.
Yellow "horse teeth" grow inside the mouth of infants, which is also called *Tanglangzi*, accompanied by trismus (lockjaw) and cheek swelling. In severe cases, lightly prick the affected area with a needle to release blood, then immediately apply ink made from Jingmo (Beijing Ink); it will be cured instantly. (Verified case attached.)
A fleshy ball grows inside the mouth, with a root-like strand extending four or five cun. The patient can only eat after spitting out the ball. Gentle pressure causes pain piercing to the heart. Take one fen of raw Shexiang (Moschus) daily, mixed with water and taken frequently. After three days, the root dissolves and the condition heals.
Growing on the upper lip, shaped like a purple plum, caused by heat accumulation in the Spleen Meridian. If not treated promptly, toxic vapors may attack the head, becoming incurable. It is advisable to puncture the abscess head with a silver needle, clean the stagnant blood with salt water, insufflate Zhenzhu San (Pearl Powder), and internally administer Jiawei Jie Geng Tang (Modified Platycodon Decoction).
Jiawei Jie Geng Tang (See previous entry under Mu Jun.)
Zhenzhu San (See later entry under Hou Yong.)
The lips are governed by the Spleen, Stomach, and Liver meridians. The flourishing aspect of the Spleen manifests in the white area around the lips. The Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian circles the lips, and the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian also circles the lips.
Growing on the upper lip, regardless of position, large ones resemble plums, small ones resemble dates. They are purple with heads, swollen, hard, and painful. Severe cases present with alternating chills and fever. Internally use Xianfang Huoming Yin (Immortal Formula for Saving Lives), externally apply Piaoxiao San (Mantis Egg Case Powder) for resolution.

(Also known as Fanlip Ding [Reverse Lip Carbuncle] or Suokou Ding [Lock-Mouth Carbuncle].)
Growing at the corners of the upper and lower lips, initially resembling a grain of rice, hard and swollen, with numbness, itching, and pain, accompanied by aversion to cold and fever. Severe cases cause the lips to evert or prevent opening the mouth, hence the names Reverse Lip and Lock Mouth. Must be treated urgently according to carbuncle protocols; delay leads to Zouhuang (systemic toxicity) and death.
White scaly blisters appear on the lips, gradually swelling like silkworm cocoons, or the lower lip swells like black dates, with dryness, cracking, itching, and pain. All are caused by fire stirring from the Seven Emotions damaging the blood. Treatment should tonify the Spleen; Guipi Tang (Restore the Spleen Decoction) is also excellent. Externally, frequently moisten with Zi Gui You (Purple Angelica Oil). If neglected for a long time and mistakenly treated with cooling-fire herbs, it often leads to Fanhua (fleshy overgrowth) which is incurable.
