The throat presents with red filaments resembling the pattern of a ge-yao kiln or the back of an begonia leaf; there is no closure or swelling, breathing is normal, but it feels dry and itchy, making eating and swallowing difficult.
This condition should be treated by insufflating Fan Jing San (Alum Powder). This disease requires clearing the Heart fire and abstaining from alcohol; salt, soy sauce, and fire-assisting foods must be avoided, otherwise, although temporary relief may occur, the root cause cannot be eradicated.

Qing Ling Dan (Green Spirit Pill)
Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis), Bingpian (Borneolum Syntheticum) (each 1 fen); Danfan (Chalcanthite) (3 fen); Xiongjing (Realgar), Pengsha (Borax), Ercha (Catechu), Shandougen (Sophorae Tonkinensis Radix et Cortex) (each 8 fen).
Grind the above into fine powder. Take three white plums, remove the pits, pound them together with the powder to make ten pills. Consume one pill daily over ten days by holding it in the mouth.

Qingxi Mizhi Fan Jing San (Qingxi Secretly Manufactured Alum Powder)
Use an unspecified amount of Baifan (Alumen) ground into powder. Take a square brick, heat it red-hot in fire, sprinkle water on the brick, spread the alum powder on the brick, cover with a porcelain plate, and grind together into a fine powder. Insufflate into the throat using a fine brush tube.

(Also known as Hou Chuang [Throat Ulcer].)
Fleshy growths appear in the throat, layered and overlapping, gradually swelling without pain. There are orifices discharging foul odor, rendering eating impossible. Decoct Gouju Ye (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus Leaf) and drink frequently to reduce swelling and guide out toxins.

This is caused by Heat-Toxin in the Lung and Stomach. Decoct Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) and Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma) for administration.

Inability to swallow saliva and food indicates Blockage of Earth Qi, belonging to Deficient Fire. Treat with Suzi Li Hou Tang (Perilla Seed Throat-Relieving Decoction) added with Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), doubled Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), and Yuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix). Also insufflate Zhenzhu San (Pearl Powder).

A sensation of an object the size of a longan fruit in the throat, which cannot be swallowed nor spat out, is named Mei He Qi (Plum-Pit Qi). Both men and women suffer this syndrome. It is suitable to use Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Ku Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Lao Su Geng (Perillae Caulis), Juhong (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria), Jinfei Cao (Bellardis Herba), and Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens). Administration leads to gradual recovery. Alternatively, acupuncture at Shaoshang (LU11) is also excellent.

Various objects lodged in the throat, such as thorns or bones, must have sharp edges, hence they pierce and do not pass down. Whatever goes down against the flow can be smoothed by reversing direction upwards.
Therefore, for treating obstruction where there is nothing to push and swelling/pain results, use Bu Geng Wan (Obstruction-Catching Pill) held in the mouth to melt and swallow. Within ten pills, if the obstruction does not exit, it will dissolve. Even for those who appear dead from obstruction, as long as there is a trace of breath, life can be saved. (Note: This formula is extremely effective for various bone obstructions in the throat.)

1. For various fish bones lodged, consume Bai Yi Tang (White Maltose) and they will dissolve spontaneously.
2. If a fish bone is horizontal in the chest, neither going up nor down, causing severe pain and inability to eat/drink, approaching death, consume Ganlan (Canarium Album Fruit) and it will dissolve. Alternatively, grind Ganlan nuclei into powder and take with fast-flowing water; this cures it.
3. If fish scales lodge in the chest, a small mirror appears in the eyes. Drink one ou of Jie Cu (Mustard Vinegar) while half-hungry; this cures it.
4. If dog meat is accidentally swallowed and bones lodge in the throat, reachable by hand but stubbornly stuck, take one piece of Nan Pingsha (Southern Borax), wash with drawn water, hold in mouth to dissolve; cured within a meal time.
5. For chicken bones lodged in the throat, crush Fengxian Hua Gen (Impatiens balsamina Root) and hold/swallow; it passes immediately. Rinse mouth with warm water promptly, otherwise teeth may be damaged. Also treats fish bone lodgments.
6. For crab shell lodged in the throat, take a live duck, hang it upside down, collect half a zhan of duck saliva, and swallow; it passes immediately.
7. For rice/wheat awns lodged in the throat, chew Zi Hua Di Ding (Viola Yedoensis) thoroughly and swallow; peace ensues. Or frequently consume maltose for relief.
8. For peach/plum pits lodged in the throat, decoct Gou Gu (Dog Bone) in water and rub/massage the head.
9. For bamboo/wood splinters lodged in the throat, heat an old saw or scale weight red-hot, quench in wine, and drink hot; extremely effective. Another method: take Niu Kou Xian (Cow Saliva), mix with boiling water, and drink; it passes.
10. For hair lodged in the throat, burn an old wooden comb to ash, take with wine. Or burn tangled hair to ash preserving its nature, mix with boiling water, and take; cured.
11. If an iron needle enters the throat accidentally, with no medicine available, take several Lai Xia Ma (Toad), chop off heads, hang upside down over running water, catch one cup of fluid. [If] hundred medicines fail, boil Can Dou (Vigna Unguiculata Var. Subterranea) and Jiu Cai (Allium tuberosum) together, eat daily, and it will pass out with stool.
Bu Geng Wan (Obstruction-Catching Pill)
Find hemp rope hung for many years with accumulated dust. Untie the rope, place in a new tile, calcine over charcoal fire until carbonized but retaining nature, grind into powder. Make pills with Yang Tang (Western Sugar) the size of... [text missing] ...life will surely be preserved. (Note: This formula is extremely effective for various bone obstructions in the throat.)
