The use of Toad Venom (Chansu) does not depend on the size of the toad, as all possess it. Use wide-tipped copper tweezers to gently pinch the raised, tense fleshy area above the supraorbital ridge (parotoid glands), and extract the venom into the tweezers. If the amount is large, catch it with fingers, dry in the shade, and store for use. The toads from which venom has been extracted should be kept away from wind for two days, then returned to a grassy garden; they will naturally survive without harm. If exposed to wind immediately after extraction, the toads will exude fluid, suffer from tetanus (Poshangfeng), become convulsed, and die.
For large Aconite Root (Fuzi), one tael (for external prescriptions), select several pieces according to need. Soak them in urine from an uncircumcised boy (Tongbian) to a depth of three cun, changing the urine daily. Soak for three months in summer and five months in winter. Then change to fresh boy's urine and boil until two distinct fragrances are emitted, which serves as the standard. Remove the skin and umbilical scar, string them together, and dry in the shade, or sun-dry until hard. Store for use.

Medicinal materials requiring processing, stir-frying, soaking, or roasting are recorded here; those not requiring such processes are omitted.
All medicinal materials must follow the processing principles of Lei Gong to be effective when used in prescriptions. Using unprocessed raw herbs in decoctions will not cure diseases but may cause harm. Just as people cannot eat raw food without cooking it, doing so would be harmful. This point should be carefully considered.
