If panting and wheezing manifest as qi rushing upward, people usually consider it to be an excess of qi (Excess Syndrome). Little do they know that apparent "qi abundance" should be viewed as qi deficiency (Qi Deficiency), and "excess" should be regarded as insufficiency.

This formula does not directly treat the Lung, but precisely treats the Lung through this method. Some may doubt that *Ren Shen* is a spleen-strengthening herb; since it is suitable for tonifying the Kidney, one might think it should not be used in large amounts. However, this follows the principle of "same qi attracting same qi."
However, regarding simple panting/wheezing, there are initial-stage cases often caused by pathogenic excess (Pathogenic Excess); and chronic cases often caused by qi deficiency (Qi Deficiency). In cases of panting/wheezing due to pathogenic excess, the patient must exhibit shoulder-lifting breathing (accessory muscle use). In cases due to qi deficiency... [text missing].
Panting/wheezing caused by rebellious Kidney Fire accompanying Liver Qi rushing upward: when severe, it may involve vomiting red, foamy sputum. This occurs because Kidney Fire flares upward, burning Lung Metal, causing Lung Heat that fails to control Liver Wood...

The brilliance of this formula lies in *Di Gu Pi* clearing fire from the bone marrow, *Sha Shen* and *Mu Dan Pi* (Moutan Cortex) nourishing Yin, *Bai Shao* pacifying the Liver, *Mai Dong* clearing the Lungs, and *Gan Cao* (Licorice Root) and *Jie Geng* guiding the medicinal power into the Lung Meridian. Thus, phlegm-panting is eliminated, and wheezing can be stabilized.
For treating panting/wheezing with a faint and choppy pulse (*Mai Wei Se*).

Women frequently suffer from this syndrome.
When suffering from panting/wheezing and cough, people assume it is Lung deficiency with wind-phlegm, not realizing this is incorrect. It is actually due to qi failing to return to its root in the Kidney, with Liver Wood exploiting this to cause mischief. The treatment method should...

Continuous administration of several doses will surely yield miraculous results. If treated with *Si Mo Tang* (Four-Step Decoction) or *Si Qi Tang* (Four-Seven Decoction), it will certainly be ineffective.
Furthermore, there is a syndrome of false heat-induced panting/wheezing with sputum production. People mistake it for heat, but it is not heat. It is caused by extreme cold in the Lower Yuan (Lower Burner/Kidney region), forcing deficient fire upward, leading to panting/wheezing. This is the most critical emergency. If one does not urgently tonify the fire of the Kidney and Mingmen (Gate of Life), that slender thread of vitality will inevitably be severed. Formula:
