This condition arises from Qi deficiency leading to the accumulation of phlegm in the middle jiao. It is advisable to consolidate the upright Qi and assist with substances that resolve phlegm. The prescription is as follows:
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1 liang), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (3 qian), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) (3 qian), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (1 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
This is a condition characterized by internal heat, [the prescription uses]:
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (3 qian), Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (3 qian), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (3 qian), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) (2 qian), Baijiezi (Sinapis Semen) (1 qian), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (2 qian).
Another prescription
This condition can also result from Taiyang disease (Taiyang disorder), manifesting as temporary madness. Baihu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) can be used to purge fire. For those who suffer from continuous madness throughout the year without recovery, or even those who hold knives to kill people:
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1 liang), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood) (1 liang), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (1 fen), Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen) (3 qian), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (3 qian).
The brilliance of this formula lies in tonifying the Heart, Spleen, and Stomach meridians to transform phlegm, rather than purging fire. Purging fire would further injure Heart Qi, causing phlegm and saliva to become more abundant, thereby exacerbating the madness.
Another prescription
For cases of madness involving cursing and scolding, where there is no thirst seeking drink, and refusal to drink even when water is offered, this is madness caused by cold syndromes. This must stem from stagnant Qi that is not free-flowing and unvented anger; such individuals typically...
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (5 qian), Fuling (Poria) (5 qian), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (1 qian), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) (1 qian), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (1 qian), Changpu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) (3 fen), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 qian). Decoct in water and take orally.
Fuling (Poria) should be replaced with Fushen (Poria with Hostwood) at 1 liang. After swallowing the medicine, the patient will feel warm and fall asleep, and the illness will vanish as if it never existed.
This condition manifests suddenly with the patient falling to the ground, making sounds like sheep, horses, or cattle, and vomiting phlegm like a gushing spring. [This is] phlegm confusing the orifices of the Heart, formed due to cold pathogens, and triggered by phlegm accumulation.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (3 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1 liang), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood) (5 qian), Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma) (3 qian), Yiren (Coicis Semen) (5 qian), Rougui (Cinnamomi Cortex) (1 qian), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (1 qian).
The previous formula is also effective for treating this condition.
Attached below is a pill formula:
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (3 liang), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (5 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (1 liang), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (3 qian), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma) (1 liang, raw), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (1 liang), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (1 qian).
Grind all ingredients into powder and form pills using honey. They must be taken when the disease is not active, so that it will never recur.
