If a person's lower body is cold while the upper body is excessively hot, accompanied by thirst and an urge to drink water, but vomiting immediately after swallowing, this is a manifestation of true cold presenting as false heat to deceive. Naturally, one should use a large dose of Bawei Tang (Eight-Ingredient Decoction), administered in a cold manner as a probe. Additionally, have a strong person rub the patient's sole until it feels as hot as fire, continuing until significant heat is generated. Subsequently, prepare a paste using Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, 1 liang), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, 1 qian), and Shexiang (Musk, 3 fen), mixed with a small amount of white flour. Apply this paste to the center of the sole. The patient will likely fall into a deep sleep shortly; upon waking, the lower body will become warm, and the fire in the upper body will subside.
Individuals suffering from Qi deficiency typically present with emaciation, poor appetite, loose stools, or difficult urination. The prescription is as follows: Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang), Fuling (Poria, 3 qian), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 5 qian), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen, 1 qian), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, dosage missing in text). This formula uses Renshen as the sovereign herb to open the Stomach Qi. The Stomach serves as the gate for the Kidney; if this gate is not opened, food intake from above cannot proceed, and waste elimination from below cannot occur. Therefore, Renshen is essential to nourish the Spleen-Stomach Earth, while Fuling and Cheqianzi help to separate and eliminate stagnant water and grain.
If symptoms persist after taking this formula, concurrently administering Bawei Wan (Eight-Ingredient Pill) can effectively solidify the Large Intestine and promote bladder function.
For food entering the Stomach to be digested into pulp and generate Body Fluids, sufficient Stomach Qi is required. [The current inability to digest food is due to Qi deficiency]. The prescription is as follows: Renshen (2 qian), Baizhu (3 qian), Chenpi (0.5 qian), Shenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, 0.5 qian), Gancao (3 qian), Huang [missing character] (3 qian), Maimai (Ophiopogonis Radix, 0.5 qian), Shanzha (Crataegi Fructus, 5 pieces), Paojiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Praeparatum, 1 qian), Fuling (3 qian). Decoct in water and take orally. If injured by starchy foods, add Luobozhi (Raphani Semen). If phlegm is present, add Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) and Baijiezi (Sinapis Semen), each 1 qian. If coughing occurs, add Suzi (Perillae Fructus) 1 qian and Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix) 2 qian. If wind-cold injury occurs... [text cuts off].
Sweating, night sweats, frequent awakening during sleep, and the inability to nourish the sinews are all manifestations of Blood deficiency. When Blood is deficient, it is natural to tonify Blood. Aside from Siwu Tang (Four-Substance Decoction), what else could one seek? The current prescription consists of: Shudi (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, 1 liang), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix, 3 qian), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 5 qian), Sangye (Mori Folium, 10 leaves), Gouqi (Lycii Fructus, 3 qian), Qiancao (Rubiae Cordifoliae Radix et Rhizoma, 1 qian). Decoct in water and take orally. The brilliance of this formula lies in using Sangye to nourish Yin and generate Blood, and cleverly adding Qiancao to invigorate Blood circulation for greater benefit, further assisted by Danggui and Shudi.
