The "Seven Qi" refers to Cold Qi, Heat Qi, Resentment Qi (Qi of indignation), Anger Qi, Worry Qi, Joy Qi, and Sorrow Qi. When these seven types of Qi accumulate, they form hard and firm masses, as large as a cup. Cold Qi causes vomiting and nausea; Heat Qi causes mental confusion, dizziness, and vertigo; Anger Qi causes heat and pain in the Upper Jiao that is unbearable, with Qi rushing upward to the heart, shortness of breath, a sensation of impending death, difficulty in breathing, and inability to rest on the bed; Sorrow Qi causes forgetfulness and mental unrest, hence it is called the "Seven Qi."
For treating symptoms caused by worry, indignation, cold-heat alternation, joy, and anger, as well as food obstruction, internal injury to the Five Zang organs, Qi attacking upward without descending, and palpitations with mental unrest, it is suitable to take the Rensan San (Ginseng Powder) formula.
Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, remove the rhizome head), Chishao Yao (Red Peony Root, 1 liang), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 1 liang), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, 1 liang), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, 0.5 liang, soak in hot water seven times, remove slipperiness).
Crush and sieve the above ingredients to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water and 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, decoct until reduced to 0.6 zhong. Strain and drink while slightly warm after meals.
For treating Seven Qi causing deficiency-cold in the Zang-Fu organs, Qi rising from the chest and heart, fatigue, and inability to eat, it is suitable to take the Banxia San (Pinellia Powder) formula.
Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber, 1 liang, wash seven times in hot water to remove slipperiness), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, remove the rhizome head), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Bark, 2 liang, remove rough bark, stir-fry with ginger juice), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, 1 liang).
Crush and sieve the above ingredients to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water and 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, decoct until reduced to 0.6 zhong. Strain and drink while slightly warm before meals.
For treating Seven Qi causing accumulation in the heart and abdomen, masses like cups, vomiting with cold-heat alternation, shortness of breath in the chest, and inability to eat, it is suitable to take the Muxiang San (Aucklandia Powder) formula.
Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 1 liang), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, 1 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, remove the rhizome head), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, 0.5 liang), Helile Pi (Pericarpium Chebulae, 0.5 liang), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 0.5 liang), Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma, 3 fen), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 3 fen), Huixiangzi (Foeniculi Fructus, 3 fen).
Coarsely sieve the above ingredients to make a powder. Take 5 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water, 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, and three jujubes, decoct until reduced to 0.6 zhong. Strain and drink while slightly warm after meals.
