After the recovery from cold damage disease (Shanghan Bing), the pathogenic factors have not yet dissipated, and both Yin and Yang remain deficient. If one engages in laborious activities at this time, the two Qi (Yin and Yang) contend with each other. When Yin prevails, chills occur; when Yang prevails, fever occurs.
The alternating chills and fever, occurring at specific times, thus constitute malaria (Nue).
For treating malaria arising after cold damage disease, characterized by indeterminate chills and fever, weakness in the four limbs, vexation, headache, and loss of appetite, it is appropriate to take Chai Hu San (Bupleurum Powder).
Ingredients: Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 3 fen, remove seedlings); Bie Jia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis, 1 liang 5 qian, coated with vinegar, roasted until slightly yellow, remove skirt edge); Zhi Mu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, 1 liang); Sang Gen Bai Pi (Cortex Morus Radicis, 1 liang 5 qian, sliced).
Xuan Fu Hua (Flos Inulae, 3 fen); Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 3 fen, roasted until slightly red, sliced); Tian Ling Gai (Os Cruris Humanum, 1 liang 5 qian, coated with butter, roasted until slightly yellow).
Process the above ingredients into a coarse powder. Take 4 qian per dose, decoct with one zhong zhan (approx. 200ml) of urine from an uncircumcised boy until reduced to five fen (approx. 100ml). Strain the dregs, add half he (approx. 10ml) of Di Huang juice, boil for one or two more boils. Take warm, regardless of time.
For treating cold damage disease that has persisted for ten-plus days without resolution, presenting with alternating chills and fever resembling malaria, and fullness/stuffiness in the chest and diaphragm, it is appropriate to take Ban Xia San (Pinellia Powder).
Ingredients: Ban Xia (Rhizoma Pinelliae, 2 liang, washed seven times with hot water to remove slipperiness); Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng, 1 liang, remove rhizome); Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 2 liang, remove seedlings); Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae, 1 liang).
Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1 liang, roasted until slightly red, sliced); Gua Lou Gen (Radix Trichosanthis, 2 liang).
Process the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take 4 qian per dose, decoct with one zhong zhan of water, add half ban (approx. 5g) of Sheng Jiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens) and three dates. Decoct until reduced to six fen. Strain the dregs. Take warm, regardless of time.
For treating cold damage disease where chills and fever occur morning and evening, or present in a manner similar to malaria, it is appropriate to take Huang Qin San (Scutellaria Powder).
Ingredients: Huang Qin (Radix Scutellariae, 1 liang); Zhi Mu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, 1 liang); Ge Gen (Radix Puerariae, 1 liang, sliced); Ma Huang (Herba Ephedrae, 1 liang, remove root and joints); Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 0.5 liang, roasted until slightly red, sliced).
Chuan Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, 0.5 liang, sliced and lightly stir-fried).
Process the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct with one large zhan of water until reduced to five fen. Strain the dregs. Take hot, regardless of time. Cover with clothing to induce sweating, which indicates efficacy.
For treating cold damage disease where, after several days, chills and fever occur intermittently, accompanied by vexation and stuffiness in the four limbs, slight urgency in breathing, resembling malaria, it is appropriate to take Bie Jia San (Turtle Shell Powder).
Ingredients: Bie Jia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis, 1 liang 5 qian, coated with vinegar, roasted until slightly yellow, remove skirt edge); Zhi Mu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, 1 liang); Sang Gen Bai Pi (Cortex Morus Radicis, 1 liang 5 qian, sliced); Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 3 fen, roasted until slightly red, sliced).
Chuan Da Huang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, 2 fen, sliced and lightly stir-fried).
Process the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct with one large zhan of water, add three stalks of Cong Bai (Stem et Bulbus Allii Cepae) and half he of Chi Shi (Faber Semen Sojae Preparatum). Decoct until reduced to five fen. Strain the dregs. Take warm, regardless of time.
For treating malaria caused by excessive labor after cold damage disease, resulting in stiffness and discomfort in the limbs and joints, it is appropriate to take Wu Mei San (Mume Seed Powder).
Ingredients: Wu Mei Rou (Sarcocarp Pruni Mume, 3 fen, lightly stir-fried); Jie Geng (Radix Platycodi, 1 liang, remove rhizome); Chi Fu Ling (Poria Cocos with Red Hosta Root, 1 liang); Bie Jia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis, 1 liang, coated with vinegar, roasted until slightly yellow, remove skirt edge).
Zhi Zi Ren (Semen Gardenoliae, 1 fen); Chai Hu (Radix Bupleuri, 1 liang, remove seedlings); Gan Cao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 0.5 liang, roasted until slightly red, sliced).
Process the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take 5 qian per dose, decoct with one large zhan of water, add half ban of Sheng Jiang. Decoct until reduced to five fen. Strain the dregs. Take warm, regardless of time.

Ingredients: Chuan Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, 1 or 2 liang); Heng Shan (Radix Dichroae, 1 liang); Shu Qi (Ramulus Dichroae, 1 liang).
Process the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take 4 qian per dose, decoct with one zhong zhan of water until reduced to six fen. Strain the dregs. Take warm on an empty stomach. Vomiting should occur after a while; if not, administer again.
For treating malaria after cold damage disease, presenting with intermittent chills and fever, it is appropriate to take Song Luo San (Dendrobium Powder).
Ingredients: Song Luo (Dendrobium, 3 fen); Wu Mei Rou (Sarcocarp Pruni Mume, 1 liang, lightly stir-fried); Heng Shan (Radix Dichroae, 1 liang); Zhi Zi Ren (Semen Gardenoliae, 0.5 liang); Chuan Sheng Ma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, 1.5 liang); Bie Jia (Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis, 2 liang, coated with vinegar, roasted until slightly yellow, remove skirt edge).
