Sputtering blood (hemoptysis) is caused by injury to the Lung. The Lung serves as the canopy of the five Zang organs, possessing a light and hollow structure; it fears heat and dislikes cold, making it susceptible to damage. If treating stagnation-heat in the Lung organ, resulting in blood within phlegm and sputum, accompanied by throat discomfort, the Jisu San (Chicken Mint Powder) formula is appropriate.
Jisu Jingye (Stems and leaves of Elsholtzia splendens, 1 liang), Chifuling (Poria with Red Hosta Root, 1 liang), Gancao (Licorice Root, 0.5 liang, processed with heat until slightly red and chopped), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, 1 liang, soaked in hot water seven times, washed to remove slippery mucus).
The above ingredients are coarsely ground into powder. Take 5 qian per dose, add one large cup of water and half a piece of fresh ginger, decoct until only two-fifths of the liquid remains, strain, and take warm after meals.

To treat persistent hemoptysis accompanied by stifling sensation in the chest and diaphragm, the Shigao San (Gypsum Powder) formula is appropriate.
Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 4 liang), Mahuang (Ephedra Herb, 2 liang, roots and nodes removed), Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit, 2 liang), Xingren (Apricot Seed, 3 liang, soaked in water, skin and tips removed, double-kernel seeds selected, bran-fried until slightly yellow).
The above ingredients are coarsely ground into powder. Take 5 qian per dose, add one large cup of water, half a piece of fresh ginger, and 50 grains of wheat, decoct until only two-fifths of the liquid remains, and strain.

The above ingredients are finely sifted into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, add one medium cup of water and a piece of Zhuru (Bamboo Shavings) the size of an egg, decoct until only two-fifths of the liquid remains, strain, and take warm after meals.
