In women suffering from edema (water disease), the condition arises due to a weak constitution that allows wind-dampness (Wind-Damp) pathogenic factors to invade the skin. These pathogens contend with body fluids (Jinye), causing stagnation and obstruction in the flow of fluids. Consequently, fluids accumulate internally without being metabolized and overflow into the subcutaneous tissues. This occurs because the Kidney governs water and shares a zang-fu relationship with the Bladder, which serves as the reservoir for body fluids. When body fluids fail to metabolize properly, water accumulates and stagnates. The external manifestation includes puffiness of the eyelids, resembling the appearance after waking up.
