In women, wind-induced pruritus arises from constitutional deficiency and the invasion of Wind pathogenic factors. When Wind enters the Couli (the interstices of the skin and hair follicles), it contends with Blood and Qi, circulating within the skin layers. The pathogenic factor is mild and insufficient to cause pain, resulting merely in itching.
For women suffering from Blood-Wind syndrome characterized by skin pruritus and mental restlessness/irritability, the Mangcao San (Mangcao Powder) is indicated.
Herba Isatidis (Yiqicao, 1 liang) [Note: Text says Mangcao, likely Herba Aristolochiae or similar, but strictly translating name], Radix Notopterygii (Qianghuo, 3 fen), Cornu Saigae Tataricae (Lingyangjiao, 3 fen), Herba Sedis (Jingtian, 3 fen), Fructus Tribuli (Bajili, 3 fen, lightly stir-fried and thorns removed), Herba Viticis Trifoliae (Chongweizi, 3 fen), Fructus Aurantii (Zhike, 3 fen, bran-fried until slightly yellow and pith removed).
The above herbs are crushed, sifted into a powder. Each dose consists of 3 qian, decocted in one zhong of water until reduced to six parts. Strain the dregs and take warm at any time.
For women suffering from Wandering Blood-Wind syndrome characterized by incessant whole-body pruritus, the Guijian San (Guijian Powder) is indicated.
Ramulus Eucommiae Ulmoidis (Guijianyu, 1 liang), Fructus Tribuli (Bajili, 1 liang, lightly stir-fried and thorns removed), Cinnamomi Cortex (Guixin, 0.5 liang), Herba Ephedrae (Mahuang, 1 liang, roots and joints removed), Rhizoma Gastrodiae (Chijian/Tianma, 3 fen), Radix Angelicae Pubescentis (Duhuo, 3 fen, radix removed), Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 3 fen, honey-fried until slightly yellow).
The above herbs are crushed, sifted into a powder. Each dose consists of 3 qian, decocted in one zhong of water until reduced to six parts. Strain the dregs and take warm at any time.
