Pediatric cold damage (Shanghan) refers to the condition where cold pathogenic factors invade the skin, contend with blood and qi, causing the couli (pores and skin texture) to become dense. This prevents the free dissemination of qi, leading to stagnation and the generation of heat. Consequently, symptoms such as headache, body pain, and heaviness occur.
For pediatric cases involving internal cold qi and external cold invasion, manifesting as cough, intermittent chills and fever, or headache, use Baizhu San (Atractylodes Powder).
Baizhu (Half liang), Chishao Yao (One fen), Ziwan (Half liang, washed to remove roots and soil), Mahuang (Half liang, removed root nodes), Houpo (Half liang, removed coarse bark).
The above herbs are coarsely ground and sieved to make a powder. Each dose is one qian, decocted in one small cup of water until reduced to half a cup. Strain and administer at any time, adjusting the dosage according to the child's age and size.
For pediatric cold damage characterized by rebellious phlegm qi causing cough, and anorexia for milk and food, use Beimu San (Fritillaria Powder).
Beimu (One fen, roasted until slightly yellow), Jie Geng (One fen, removed rhizome base), Gancao (One fen, honey-fried until slightly red and chopped), Guixin (One liang), Chenjupi (Half liang, white pith removed, using only the tip with two kernels, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow).
The above herbs are coarsely ground and sieved to make a powder. Each dose is one qian, decocted in one small cup of water with a little fresh ginger until reduced to half a cup. Strain and take warm at any time, adjusting the dosage according to the child's age and size.
For pediatric cold damage presenting with high fever, cough, and vomiting, use Pipaye San (Loquat Leaf Powder).
Pipaye (One fen, hairs wiped off, roasted until slightly yellow), Chuanshengma (Half liang), Renshen (Half liang, removed rhizome base), Maogen (One liang, chopped), Zhuru (Three fen).
The above herbs are coarsely ground and sieved to make a powder. Each dose is one qian, decocted in one small cup of water with one jujube (split open) and a little fresh ginger until reduced to half a cup. Strain and take warm at any time, adjusting the dosage according to the child's age and size.
For pediatric cold damage with persistent cough that has not healed, use Xingren San (Apricot Seed Powder).
Xingren (Half liang, soaked in hot water, peeled, removed tips and double kernels, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow), Beimu (Half liang, roasted until slightly yellow), Chuanshengma (Half liang), Gancao (Half liang, fried until slightly yellow).
The above herbs are coarsely ground and sieved to make a powder. Each dose is one qian, decocted in one small cup of water with a little fresh ginger until reduced to half a cup. Strain and take warm at any time, adjusting the dosage according to the child's age and size.
For pediatric cold damage with cough, retching, and continuous symptoms day and night, use Guixin San (Cinnamon Heart Powder).
Guixin (Half liang), Gancao (One liang, fried until slightly red and chopped), Ziwan (Three fen, washed to remove roots and soil), Maidong (One liang, heart removed and baked dry).
