The liver qi communicates with the eyes. When there is heat within the zang organs, it combats with phlegm-fluids in the chest and diaphragm, steaming and soaking the liver. The heat qi rushes to the eyes, causing redness and pain.
If the condition is severe, presenting as wind-toxin of the liver rising upward in children, causing eye redness and pain, inability to open the eyes, and headache in the forehead, treat with Lingyangjiao San (Antelope Horn Powder).
