Shi Qi Bing (Seasonal Epidemic Disease) is caused by the disharmony of seasonal climates and irregularities in warmth and cold. When the human body contracts abnormal climatic qi, illness ensues. Such diseases are often contagious. Therefore, it is necessary to take medicine in advance and employ various methods for prevention.
To treat the mutual transmission of Shi Qi Bing, one must avoid contact with patients. During dietary care, sharing food or utensils is prohibited. If one person falls ill, the entire household becomes unsettled.
[Formula 1]
Ingredients: Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 3 fen, remove roots and nodes), Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix, 3 fen, remove rhizomes), Chuan Wutou (Aconiti Radix Lateralis Preparata, 1 fen, processed until cracked, remove skin and lateral roots), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 3 fen, remove rhizomes), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma, text incomplete/fragmented as "Xi"), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, quantity missing in source).
Preparation and Administration: Pound the above ingredients and sieve them into a powder. Each dose consists of 2 qian, taken on an empty stomach mixed with warm wine.
[Formula 2] For treating continuous mutual transmission of Shi Qi Bing, Wu Tou San (Cocklebur Powder? Note: Source says Wutou San, likely Aconite Powder) is suitable.
Ingredients: Chuan Wutou (Aconiti Radix Lateralis Preparata, 1 fen, processed until cracked, remove skin and lateral roots), Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 3 fen), Chuan Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 3 fen, cut into pieces and lightly stir-fried), Ta Gan (Leporis Liver, 1 fen, soaked in wine and lightly roasted), Longnao (Borneolum Syntheticum, 0.5 liang, finely ground), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix, 3 fen, remove seedlings), Chuan Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas, 3 fen, finely ground).
Preparation and Administration: Pound the above ingredients and sieve them into a powder. Add Longnao and Puxiao, grinding together until uniform. Each dose consists of 1 qian, taken on an empty stomach mixed with warm wine.
[Formula 3] For treating Shi Qi Bing that spreads contagiously, potentially leading to family extinction and affecting outsiders who inevitably contract it, Xiong Huang Wan (Realgar Pill) is suitable.
Ingredients: Xiong Huang (Realgar, 1 liang, finely ground), Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean, 2 liang, stir-fried until cooked), Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 2 liang), Gui Jianyu (Spatholobi Caulis, 2 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Pound the above ingredients and sieve them into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Each dose consists of 5 pills, taken on an empty stomach with warm water. One can share a bed and clothes with patients without contracting the disease.
[Formula 4] For treating Shi Qi Bing that spreads contagiously to outsiders, causing people to fear looking at them, Zhusha Wan (Cinnabar Pill) is prescribed.
Ingredients: Zhusha (Cinnabaris, 2 liang, finely ground and washed via water flotation method), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, remove rhizomes), Gui Jianyu (Spatholobi Caulis, 2 liang), Xiong Huang (Realgar, 2 liang, finely ground and washed via water flotation method), Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean, 2 liang, stir-fried until cooked).
Preparation and Administration: Pound the above ingredients and sieve them into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of adzuki beans. Each dose consists of 5 pills, taken on an empty stomach with warm water. One can share a bed and clothes with patients without contracting the disease.
[Formula 5] To treat heat-toxin from Shi Qi Bing and prevent contagion.
Ingredients: Dou Chi (Fermented Soybean, 1 sheng), Fulonggan (Dragon's House Earth, 3 liang, finely ground), Tongzi Xiaobian (Urine of an uncircumcised boy, 3 zhong zhan).
Preparation and Administration: Mix the above ingredients and decoct to obtain 1.5 zhong zhan of liquid. Strain the dregs. Divide into three doses. Take one dose at dawn each day to prevent infection by malarial fevers and epidemics.
[Formula 6] To treat warm-toxin from Shi Qi Bing and prevent contagion.
Method: In the first lunar month, select mulberry roots growing towards the east, with a thickness similar to a finger and a length of 7 cun. Coat them with Zhusha (Cinnabaris) and hang them on the door. Additionally, have people wear them.
