When the seasonal qi disease (acute infectious diseases caused by exogenous warm pathogenic factors) reaches the sixth day, the Jueyin meridian is affected. The Jueyin meridian follows the Yin collaterals to connect with the Liver. Therefore, after six days of illness, restlessness and retraction of the genitals occur. This indicates that both the Three Yin meridians and the Three Yang meridians are affected by the pathogen, and the toxic heat enters the intestines and stomach; thus, it can be cured by purgation.
For the treatment of seasonal qi disease on the sixth day, characterized by high fever, painful and uncomfortable joints, headache, dizziness, distending and urgent hardness in the chest and hypochondrium, inability to eat, and fear of transforming into jaundice, the Chaihu Powder is suitable.
