When the pathogenic factors of seasonal qi (acute febrile diseases caused by abnormal qi of the four seasons) emanate from the zang-fu organs, they attack the hands and feet, causing heat, redness, swelling, and pain in the extremities. The meridians of the five zang and six fu organs, as well as the transport points of ying and wei (nutritive and defensive qi), all connect to the fingers and toes. Therefore, toxic pathogens emerge from the interior and attack the hands and feet.
Formula for treating seasonal qi toxic pathogens attacking the hands and feet, causing redness, swelling, and severe pain:
Fermented Soybean Paste (Douchi, 8 liang) and Mutton Meat (1 jin).
Boil these together in one dou of water until the meat is cooked. Adjust the temperature of the decoction to be suitable, and soak the hands and feet in it three times a day.
Another formula:
Dig a pit in the ground, three chi deep, large enough to accommodate both feet. Heat the bottom with fire, pour wine into the pit, wear wooden clogs, and squat over the pit. Wrap clothing around the body to prevent heat loss. Repeat twice daily.
Another formula:
Decoct mutton meat and peach leaves, and use the juice to soak the affected area. Adding a small amount of salt is even better.
Formula for treating seasonal qi heat-toxic pathogens attacking the hands and feet, causing swelling, heat, and severe pain:
Polygonum cuspidatum Rhizome et Radix (Huzhang, 3 jin, crushed).
Decoct in three dou of water until two dou remain. Strain the dregs. Soak the hands and feet in the warm liquid three times a day.
Another formula:
Sophora Root (Kushen, 1 jin, crushed).
Decoct in one dou of wine for five to seven boils. Strain the dregs. Soak in the warm liquid three to four times a day.
Formula for treating seasonal qi heat-toxic pathogens attacking the hands and feet, causing heat and pain:
Decoct horse manure juice (Matong Zhi) and soak the affected area three times a day.
Another formula:
Apply pig fat mixed with horse manure juice to the affected area; this is also effective.
Formula for treating seasonal qi heat-toxic pathogens attacking the hands and feet, causing unbearable swelling and pain resembling detachment:
Take one pig's trotter, remove hair, wash clean, and crush. Take a handful of green onion whites, chopped. Decoct in one dou of water for five to seven boils. Remove the trotter and other solids. Soak the affected area when slightly warm.
Another formula:
Phellodendron Bark (Huangbai, 0.5 jin, finely crushed).
Decoct in three dou of water for ten boils. Use to soak the hands and feet until recovery.
Formula for treating seasonal qi toxic pathogens attacking the hands and feet, causing swelling and pain resembling detachment:
Wrap the affected area with raw beef. The swelling will subside and pain will cease.
After vomiting or purging in seasonal qi disease, both the exterior and interior become deficient. Heat-toxin enters the stomach and intestines through this deficiency, resulting in dysentery with yellow-red stool, or pus and blood in the stool, accompanied by high fever throughout the body and abdominal pain. If the pulse is weak, the condition will heal spontaneously; if the pulse is deep and wiry, there will definitely be tenesmus; if the pulse is large, the disease has not yet ceased. These are all caused by heat-toxin pathogens.
