Heat disease. Some patients have not yet undergone sweating, emetic, or purgative treatments, while others have taken medication but still present with a pulse that is surging, firm, and rapid; abdominal and gastric distension and fullness; dark yellow urine; difficult defecation; irritability or thirst; and reddened facial complexion. This is due to the presence of constrained heat within the zang-fu organs.
For heat disease after sweating, where residual heat remains unremoved, accompanied by headache and mental restlessness, it is appropriate to take Shigao San (Gypsum Powder).
Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (2 liang) Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Radix) (1 liang, heart removed and roasted) Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma) (0.5 liang) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang, radix tip removed) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (3 fen) Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (0.5 liang, radix tip removed) Xijiaoxie (Rhinocerotis Cornu) (0.5 liang) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang, honey-fried until slightly red and chopped)
The above herbs are coarsely pounded and sifted into a powder. Each dose consists of 5 qian, decocted in one da zhen (large cup) of water with two stalks of Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) and 50 grains of Chishi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum) until reduced to 0.5 portion. Strain the dregs. Take warm at any time.
For heat disease after sweating, where residual heat persists, presenting with alternating chills and fever, heavy head, and body pain, it is appropriate to take this formula.
Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix) (1 liang, chopped) Huangqi (Astragali Radix) (1 liang, chopped) Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) (3 fen) Zhizi Ren (Gardeniae Fructus) (1 liang) Digupi (Lycii Cortex) (3 fen) Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 liang, radix tip removed) Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (1 liang) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang, honey-fried until slightly red and chopped)
The above herbs are coarsely pounded and sifted into a powder. Each dose consists of 3 qian, decocted in one zhong zhen (medium cup) of water with 30 grains of Chishi (Sojae Semen Praeparatum) until reduced to 0.5 portion. Strain the dregs. Take warm at any time.
For heat disease after sweating, where residual heat remains unresolved, presenting with sweating on the head and neck but no sweat on the body, internal stasis-heat, thirst with desire to drink water, and dysuria, it is appropriate to take Yinchen San (Artemisiae Scopariae Powder).
Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba) (0.5 liang) Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix) (1 liang, radix tip removed) Zhizi Ren (Gardeniae Fructus) (3 fen) Zhuling (Polyporus) (0.5 liang, black skin removed) Chuandahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (3 fen, chopped and lightly stir-fried) Qinjiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix) (3 fen, radix tip removed) Sanggenbaipi (Mori Cortex) (0.5 liang, chopped) Mutong (Akebiae Caulis) (0.5 liang, chopped) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (0.5 liang, honey-fried until slightly red and chopped)
