Tan-shi Malaria (Phlegm-Excess Malaria) refers to a condition where the patient's chest and diaphragm originally harbor stagnant and solidified pathogenic factors. Upon contracting malaria, this leads to a sensation of fullness and distension below the heart, rebellious Qi, irritability, and vomiting.
For treating Tan-shi Malaria, where attacks occur at irregular intervals, sometimes in the morning and sometimes at night, accompanied by gradual loss of appetite, it is advisable to take Songluo Decoction for Inducing Vomiting.
Ingredients: Radix Hedyotisae Diffusae (Songluo, 0.5 liang), Rhizoma et Radix Ginseng (Ren Shen Lu Tou, 0.5 liang), Radix Dichroiae (Hengshan, 0.5 liang), Radix Bupleuri (Chuan Shengma, 0.5 liang), Leaves of Bambusa (Zhuye, 1-2 pieces).
Preparation and Administration: Finely chop the above ingredients. Decoct with two large bowls of water until one bowl remains. Strain the dregs. Divide into two doses. Take at dawn (Pingdan). Vomiting should occur after walking approximately five *li*. If vomiting does not occur, administer another dose. Once vomiting occurs after a while, the disease will resolve.
For treating Tan-shi Malaria, which presents with alternating chills and fever, use Wumei Decoction.
Ingredients: Fructus Mume (Wumei Rou, 0.5 liang, lightly stir-fried), Radix Dichroiae (Hengshan, 0.5 liang), Radix Hedyotisae Diffusae (Songluo, 3 fen), Carapax et Plastrum Testudinis (Biejia, 1 liang, used raw), Radix Bupleuri (Chuan Shengma, 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Finely chop all ingredients. Decoct with three large bowls of water until one and a half bowls remain. Add two qian of tea powder, boil for three boils. Strain. Take on an empty stomach, divided into two doses. Vomiting should occur after walking approximately five *li*. If no vomiting occurs, take another dose. The treatment is considered effective when foul phlegm is expelled.
Formula for curing Tan-shi Malaria upon inducing vomiting.
Ingredients: Radix Asari (Xixin, 0.5 liang), Radix Dichroiae (Hengshan, 1 liang), Semen Gossypii Herbacei (Zizhiren, 0.5 liang), Radix Hedyotisae Diffusae (Songluo, 0.5 liang), Cornu Rhinocerotis (Xijiao Xie, 0.5 liang), Radix Bupleuri (Chuan Shengma, 0.5 liang), Radix Scrophulariae (Xuanshen, 0.5 liang), Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 0.5 liang, cut raw).
