Lymphatic tuberculosis (Luoli) presenting as hard, knotted swellings is caused by the stagnation and obstruction of the Zang-Fu organs. Wind-heat toxic factors attack the Liver, contend with the tendons, and cause the meridians to knot and gather into nodules. This results in aversion to cold, high fever, stiffness of the neck, headache, discomfort in the four limbs, and mental restlessness and oppression. The condition mostly occurs between the neck and axilla, appearing like plums or peaches, or resembling connected pearl-like granules.
To treat heat-toxins accumulated for a long time in the Heart and Diaphragm, and Liver Qi stagnation leading to lymphatic tuberculosis in the neck, use the Wuxiang San (Five Fragrances Powder) formula:
Chenxiang (Agarwood, 1 liang), Muxiang (Costus Root, 1 liang), Xunluxiang (Frankincense, 1 liang), Shexiang (Musk, 1 fen, finely ground), Dingxiang (Clove, 3 fen), Lingyangjiaoxie (Antelope Horn Scraps, 3 fen), Lianqiao (Forsythia Fruit, 1 liang), Xuanshen (Scrophularia Root, 3 fen), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis, 3 fen), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, 1 liang, chopped and slightly stir-fried), Huangqi (Astragalus Root, 1 liang, chopped).
Crush and sieve the above herbs into a powder. Add Musk and grind evenly. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhongzhan (approx. 200ml) of water, 5 cun (approx. 15cm) of Luzhu (Reed Rhizome), and half a fen of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger). Decoct until reduced to 6 fen. Strain and take warm at any time.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis gathering into masses, ulcerating into sores, and attacking upwards causing head and neck pain, use the Shengma San (Cimicifuga Powder) formula:
Chuan Shengma (Cimicifeta Rhizome, 1 liang), Lianqiao (Forsythia Fruit, 2 liang), Xuanshen (Scrophularia Root, 1 liang), Baijiangcao (Patrinia Herb, 1 liang), Chuan Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, 2 liang, chopped and slightly stir-fried), Xijiaoxie (Rhinoceros Horn Scraps), Hongxue (Red Snow/Sugar Candy, add 1 qian after decoction).
Crush and sieve the above herbs into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add 1 zhongzhan of water. Decoct until reduced to 6 fen. Strain and take warm at any time.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis with hard swellings, connected like pearls, causing irritability and pain in the head, neck, shoulders, and scapula, use the Banmao Wan (Mustard Beetle Pill) formula:
Banmao (Mustard Beetle, 1 fen, preferably with red-black spots; remove head, wings, feet, and stir-fry), Zhuya Zao (Pig's Tooth Soap Pod, 1 fen, roasted, remove black skin, roast until yellow), Shetui (Snake Slough, 0.5 liang, slightly stir-fried), Chuan Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, 0.5 liang, burned to ash).
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Add Musk and grind evenly. Mix with refined honey and pound 300-200 times. Form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 10 pills on an empty stomach with millet drink. Between Chen and Si hours (7 AM - 11 AM), the disease will discharge material resembling frog skin and pus/blood.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis forming hard, painful nodules that do not dissipate, or break open with continuous purulent discharge, use the Wushe Wan (Black Snake Pill) formula:
Wushe (Black Snake, 3 liang, soaked in wine, remove skin and bones, roast until slightly yellow), Xijiaoxie (Rhinoceros Horn Scraps, 3 fen), Lianqiao (Forsythia Fruit, 1 liang), Xuanshen (Scrophularia Root, 3 fen), Kunbu (Kelp, 3 fen, wash to remove saltiness), Niubangzi (Arctium Seed, 1 liang, slightly stir-fried), Chuan Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, 1 liang, chopped and slightly stir-fried), Huangqi (Astragalus Root, 1 liang, chopped), Loulu (Euphorbia Root, 1 liang), Gancao (Licorice Root, 3 fen, remove skin and slightly stir-fried), Banmao (Mustard Beetle, 1 fen, stir-fried with glutinous rice until rice turns yellow).
Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Mix with refined honey and pound 300-500 times. Form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 20 pills at any time with clear millet drink.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis with hard swellings, use the Luozie Wan (Snail Pill) formula:
Xiao Luozie (Small Snail, 18 pieces, remove tips, slightly stir-fried), Banmao (Mustard Beetle, 21 pieces, remove head and feet, stir-fry until yellow), Que'er Fen (Sparrow Droppings, 63 pieces, white ones, slightly stir-fried), Shexiang (Musk, 1 qian, finely ground).
First, grind the first three ingredients into powder. Add Musk and grind evenly. Mash 1 he (approx. 100g) of Hao Chi (Good Fermented Soybean Paste) finely. Mix to form pills the size of mung beans. Take 5 pills daily on an empty stomach with Scallion Tea.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis with hard, painful swellings, use this formula:
Banmao (Mustard Beetle, 14 pieces, remove head, feet, wings, feathers; stir-fry with glutinous rice until rice turns yellow), Xiongshu (Male Rat Droppings, 14 pieces, slightly stir-fried).
Grind the above herbs together until extremely fine. Add Nifen (Calomel, 2 qian) and grind another thousand times. Mix with mung bean flour and fresh well-water to form pills the size of mung beans. Take on an empty stomach... [Text missing].
For tonification, use the Xionghuang Wan (Realgar Pill) formula:
Xionghuang (Realgar, 1 fen, finely ground), Zhusha (Cinnabar, 1 fen, finely ground), Shexiang (Musk, 1 fen, finely ground), Xixin (Asarum, 0.5 liang), Renshen (Ginseng, 0.5 liang, remove rhizome head).
Grind the above herbs into powder. Mix with the previously ground medicines. Form pills the size of mung beans with refined honey. Take 3 pills before meals with warm wine.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis swelling and pain, promoting internal resolution, use the Zhusha Wan (Cinnabar Pill) formula:
Zhusha (Cinnabar, 1 fen, finely ground), Nifen (Calomel, 1 fen), Fenshuang (Sublimated Arsenic Trioxide, 1 fen, finely ground).
Grind the above herbs evenly. Mix with egg white to form pills the size of Sophora seeds. Take 3 pills early in the fifth watch (3 AM - 5 AM) with Scallion Soup. After some time, bowel movement should occur. If not, take again.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis that does not dissipate, use this formula:
Xiongshu Fen (Male Rat Droppings, 1 liang, small ones are better), Zaojia Zhen (Soap Pod Spines, 1 liang, chopped and stir-fried until yellow), Hubai Pi (Oak White Bark, 10 liang, decoct in 8 sheng of water to obtain 3 sheng).
Grind the above herbs into powder. Take 1 qian of medicine mixed with a small zhongzhan of warm medicinal liquid early in the fifth watch. Lie down immediately after taking. After some time, severe vomiting should occur. If not, take another dose. At sunrise, vomit out disease pathogens resembling small frogs. Vomiting completely indicates efficacy. Eat warm porridge afterwards.
Another prescription:
Nifen (Calomel, 1 qian), Jing Yangrou (Lean Mutton, 2 liang, finely cut), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger, 1 qian), Lingxiaohua (Campsis Flower, 1 liang, white ones, slightly stir-fried).
Grind two of the above ingredients (context implies meat/ginger mix) into powder. Mix with Calomel and meat. Wrap in wet paper (3-5 layers) and bake in fire until cooked. Take one dose. Use warm... [Text missing].
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis and all wind-pathogen induced knots, which are hard and painful, use the Hupo Gao (Amber Plaster) formula:
Hupo (Amber, 1 liang, finely ground), Dingxiang (Clove, 3 fen), Muxiang (Costus Root, 3 fen), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, 0.5 liang), Zhusha (Cinnabar, 0.5 liang, finely ground), Miebiezi (Momordica Seed, 0.5 liang, remove shell), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis, 0.5 liang), Songzhi (Pine Rosin, 2 liang), Huangdan (Lead Tetroxide, 7 liang), Baizhi (Angelica Dahurica, 1 liang, implied in frying step).
First, grind Amber, Clove, Costus, Cinnamon Heart, and Cinnabar into fine powder. Chop the remaining six ingredients (Momordica, etc.) finely and soak in oil overnight. Decoct in a clean pot over slow fire until Baizhi turns scorched yellow, then strain out. Add Pine Rosin to melt. Filter through silk cloth to clarify the oil. Return oil to pot, simmer slowly, add Lead Tetroxide, and stir constantly with a willow spatula. Test hardness by dropping into water. Add Amber powder and mix evenly. Store in porcelain box. When using, spread evenly on paper and apply according to fire intensity. Change twice daily.
To treat deep-rooted lymphatic tuberculosis with hard, painful swellings, take Bailian San (Bletilla Powder):
Bailian (Bletilla Rhizome, 3 fen), Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 3 fen, remove threads), Chuan Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, 3 fen), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, 3 fen), Mangcao (Polygonatum Herb, 3 fen), Chishizhi (Red Halloysite, 3 fen), Chishaoyao (Red Peony Root, 3 fen).
Grind into powder. Mix with egg white and apply to old silk cloth. Change when dry.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis externally, promoting spontaneous discharge:
Nifen (Calomel, 1 fen), Fenshuang (Sublimated Arsenic Trioxide, 1 fen), Banmao (Mustard Beetle, 1 fen), Pishuang (Arsenic Trisulfide, 1 fen), Yanzifen (Swallow Droppings, 1 fen, slightly stir-fried).
Grind all finely. Mix with lard from the twelfth lunar month. Apply a size of a small bean to the lesion. Seal with dough-paper. After 6-7 days, pus will drain. After half a month, it falls off naturally. Quickly apply Shengji Gao (Flesh-Regenerating Plaster).
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis pain, hard as stone:
Suan (Garlic, 3 cloves, mashed), Shexiang (Musk, 1 fen, finely ground).
Grind evenly, apply to cloth, and patch. Change twice daily.
Another prescription:
Shexiang (Musk, 1 qian, finely ground), Jiyu (Crucian Carp, 20 pieces, approx. 1 cun long, gutted, insert one Baidu with skin into each fish intestine).
Seal in a bottle with mud. Burn slowly until red hot. Cool, remove, grind with Musk into powder. Take half a qian on an empty stomach with warm wine. After some time, drink hot wine to induce expulsion of evil matter. Daily use until evil matter is exhausted, disease resolves internally.
Another prescription:
Nifen (Calomel, 0.5 liang), Jizi (Chicken Egg, 2, use whites only).
Mix with thin flour paste. Stir-fry over slow fire with chopsticks until scorched black. Add 0.5 liang of premium Zhusha (Cinnabar). Grind fine. Adults take 1 qian with millet drink early in the fifth watch. After some time, abdominal pain occurs, expelling disease root like jujube pits.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis swelling and hard nodules, use this external patch:
Mangcao (Polygonatum Herb, 1 liang).
Grind into powder. Mix with egg white, apply to silk, and patch. Change twice daily.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis growing like plums/peaches on the neck, for rapid resolution:
Haizao (Sargassum, 1 jin).
Soak in 5 sheng of wine for several days. Drink small amounts.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis, promoting internal resolution:
Take Ascaris worms (Huichong) as needed, slightly stir-fry, grind into powder. Mix with refined honey to form Sophora seed-sized pills. Take 3 pills on an empty stomach with warm wine.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis, regardless of having a head or not, use this patch:
Da Zhizhu (Large Spider, 5 pieces, sun-dried).
Grind finely. Mix with butter/suet to form face cream consistency. Apply twice daily.
To treat lymphatic tuberculosis, use this moxibustion method:
Badou (Croton Seed, 1 piece, remove skin and heart), Aiye (Mugwort Leaf, size of a chicken egg).
Mix, mash, tear, dry, and roll into moxa cones. Apply 3 moxa cones to the lesion. Stop.
Treatment for lymphatic tuberculosis moxibustion using Tingli Bingzi (Descurainia Cake):
Tinglizi (Descurainia Seed, 2 he), Chi (Fermented Soybeans, 0.5 jin, soaked in soup until soft).
Mash together, form cakes the thickness of a coin. Place on lesion. Moxa cone size of little finger. Moxa on cake. Once every 5 days, 7 cones.
Treatment for lymphatic tuberculosis hard swelling using Shanglu Bingzi (Phytolacca Cake):
Shanglu (Phytolacca Root, 3 liang).
Mash, form coin-sized cakes. Place on lesion. Moxa on cake until hot and dry. 30 cones for cure.
Treatment for lymphatic tuberculosis using Langdang Gen (Henbane Root) moxibustion:
Langdang Gen (Henbane Root, 1 liang, thick ones).
Slice thickly (3-4 fen). Place on lesion. Make tight moxa cones. Moxa frequently until heat penetrates. Change 5-6 cones. Symptoms will subside.
For lymphatic tuberculosis on the neck, internal nodules, or any condensed knots, use urgent moxibustion:
Doutou Suan (Single-clove Garlic, 1 piece).
Cut both ends, keep center. Make large moxa cones matching garlic size. Place on lesion. Moxa without breaking skin. Only seek heat. 7 cones, replace garlic. Daily moxibustion until resolved.
