Any initial formation of Ying (goiter, a swelling in the neck) is caused by emotional distress and anger leading to rebellious Qi, which accumulates and stagnates; or it results from long-term consumption of flowing water containing sand and stones, causing toxic vapors to remain unresolved. All these conditions lead to the obstruction of Pi (Spleen) and Fei (Lung) Qi.
For treating sudden nodular cysts appearing on the neck that are about to become Ying (goiter), the Mutong San (Wood Vetch Powder) formula is suitable.
