Chest bi (chest obstruction) accompanied by hardness and stuffiness in the epigastrium is caused by dysfunction of the zang-fu organs, where wind-cold pathogenic factors invade and accumulate in the chest and diaphragm. This leads to congestion and stagnation in the meridians and collaterals, obstructing the smooth flow of qi, resulting in pain in the heart region.
For treating chest bi with symptoms of hardness and stuffiness in the epigastrium, tension and discomfort in the chest and back, and stagnation in the heart and abdomen, this formula is indicated.
Ingredients: Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange Fruit, 1 liang, stir-baked with bran until slightly yellow), Mu Xiang (Costus Root, 0.5 liang), Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix, 1 liang, radix removed), Chen Pi (Dried Tangerine Peel, 1 liang, soaked in hot water, white pith removed, dried).
The above ingredients are crushed, sifted, and made into a powder. Take 5 qian per dose, add 1 large cup of water and 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, decoct until 0.5 cup remains, strain, and take frequently while warm.
