The Qi of the Spleen is stagnant and full, and there is heat in the Stomach, causing Yang Qi to flourish. When Yang Qi flourishes, there is vexation and fullness in the chest and diaphragm; phlegm-fluids accumulate, leading to vomiting and hiccups (dry heaving). These conditions mostly occur in individuals with strong constitutions and plump muscles, whose Spleen and Stomach have long accumulated heat, obstructing the upper Jiao (Upper Burner) and thus causing vomiting and hiccups.
For treating vomiting and hiccups caused by stagnant Qi and retained phlegm in the Spleen and Stomach, as well as vomiting immediately after eating, the Pi Pa Ye San Formula (Loquat Leaf Powder) is suitable.
Ingredients: Loquat Leaf (Pi Pa Ye, 1 liang, brushed to remove hairs, lightly roasted until yellow), Akebia Caulis (Mu Tong, 0.5 liang, chopped), Peucedani Radix (Qian Hu, 0.5 liang, radix removed), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Ren Shen, 1 liang, radix removed), Poria (Fu Ling, 3 qian).
