The Spleen is a Zang organ. The Stomach is a Fu organ. The Qi of the Spleen and Stomach forms an interior-exterior relationship. The Stomach is the "Sea of Water and Grain," primarily responsible for receiving and holding food and drink. The Spleen is responsible for transforming and digesting food, which enables appetite. Currently, both the Spleen and Stomach are deficient in Qi, hence the inability to eat.
For treating deficiency of Qi in the Spleen and Stomach, leading to an inability to eat, chest and epigastric fullness and oppression upon eating, weakness in the four limbs, and pain, it is appropriate to take Hongdoukou San (Red Cardamom Powder).
Hongdoukou (Cardamomi Rubi Fructus, 3 fen, peeled) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 3 fen) Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, 3 fen) Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 2 liang, coarse bark removed, brushed with fresh ginger juice, stir-fried until fragrant) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, sliced) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang, sliced)
Crush and sieve the above herbs into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong zhan (approx. 200ml) of water, 0.5 banfen (approx. 5g) of fresh ginger, and 3 jujubes. Decoct until reduced to 6 fen (approx. 120ml). Remove the dregs. Take slightly warm at any time. Avoid cold, raw, greasy foods, and wet noodles.
For treating deficiency of Qi in the Spleen and Stomach, loss of appetite, mental fright and palpitations, sudden interruption of ascending Qi, mental and physical confusion, dry mouth and scorched tongue, and weakness in the four limbs, it is appropriate to take Muxiang San (Costus Root Powder).
Muxiang (Saussureae Radix, 1 liang) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 1 liang, radix removed) Baifuling (Poria, 1 liang) Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 1 liang, sliced and lightly stir-fried) Baishaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, 0.5 liang) Ezhu (Curcumae Longae Rhizoma, 0.5 liang, processed and sliced) Jupi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 liang, soaked in boiling water)
Crush and coarsely sieve the above herbs into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong zhan of water, 0.5 banfen of fresh ginger, and 3 jujubes. Decoct until reduced to 6 fen. Remove the dregs. Take warm at any time. Avoid cold, raw, and greasy foods.
For treating deficiency of Qi in the Spleen and Stomach, inability to eat, occasional rebellious Phlegm Qi, and disharmony in the four limbs, it is appropriate to take Houpo San (Magnolia Bark Powder).
