Pifu (a type of skin ulcer, similar to scrofula or lymphatic tuberculosis in modern medicine) arises from cold pathogens invading the abdomen causing distension. The cold toxins within the body fail to dissipate and undergo pathological transformation. At the onset, the lesion is located on the neck and nape, causing high fever with symptoms resembling Taiyang disease (exogenous febrile disease affecting the Taiyang channel); externally it resembles scabies or tinea, with pus discharging from multiple orifices. Its root lies in the Lung.
For Pifu occurring on the upper neck, initially presenting with high fever and subsequently forming ulcers that discharge pus and cause pain, the Taobai Pi San (Peach White Bark Powder) formula is indicated.
Taobai Pi (Peach Tree Inner Bark, 0.5 liang, crushed), Chuan Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, 0.5 liang, crushed and lightly stir-fried), Zhi Mu (Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, 1 fen), Sheng Gan Dihuang (Raw Radix Rehmanniae, 0.5 liang), Cihuang (Realgar, 1 fen, finely ground), [Text missing, likely a herb] (lightly stir-fried to remove moisture), Baimao (Mylabris, 1 fen, stir-fried with glutinous rice until the rice turns yellow).
The above herbs are pounded into a fine powder, sifted, and mixed uniformly. Take 1 qian with warm gruel on an empty stomach and before evening meals.
For Pifu, the Chixiaodou San (Adzuki Bean Powder) formula is indicated.
Chixiaodou (Vigna angularis, 1 he, cooked), Bailian (Rhizoma Belamcandae, 1 liang), Lufengfang (Nidus Vespae, 1 fen, roasted until yellow), Shetuipi (Ophichthus Skin, 2 chi, lightly stir-fried).
The above herbs are pounded into a fine powder, sifted, and mixed. Take 1 qian with warm wine on an empty stomach, and repeat before evening meals.
Another prescription:
Guidan (Gall Bladder of Turtle, 3 pieces), Quanya (Dog Tooth, 3 pieces, roasted until yellow), Hupo (Amber, 0.5 liang), Huishetou (Head of Vipera, 1 piece, roasted until yellow), Xionghuang (Realgar, 0.5 liang, finely ground), Zhuya (Tusk of Wild Boar, 3 pieces, roasted until yellow).
The above herbs are pounded into powder, mixed evenly with vinegar, and applied to the ulcer overnight for miraculous effect.
For floating nodules remaining after Pifu resolution, as well as various polyps within the muscle tissue, the Lilu San (Veratrum Powder) formula is indicated.
Lilu (Rhizoma Veratri, 1 liang, remove rhizome head, coat with white of one egg, roast until dry), [Text missing, likely a herb] (1 liang), Xionghuang (Realgar, 2 liang, finely ground).
The above herbs are pounded into a fine powder, sifted, and mixed with the Realgar powder. Apply to the ulcer. Avoid contact with eyes.
Qicao (a subcutaneous nodule or cyst, similar to lipoma or sebaceous cyst in modern medicine) arises from excessive fear, sorrow, overthinking, and incessant weeping, where residual toxins undergo transformation. At the onset, the lesion is located on the neck and nape, lacking distinct head or tail, resembling a jujube pit. It may move within the subcutaneous tissue, causing alternating chills and fever, and fullness in the heart region. Its root lies in the Heart.
For tubercles and swelling/pain caused by Qicao, the Xuanshen San (Scrophularia Powder) formula is indicated.
Xuanshen (Radix Scrophulariae, 2 liang), Chuan Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, 2 liang), Duohuo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, 2 liang), Han Fangji (Radix Stephaniae Tetrandrae, 1 liang), Gan Juhua (Flos Chrysanthemi, 1 liang), Lianqiao (Fructus Forsythiae, 3 liang), Xijiaoxie (Horn of Rhinoceros, 0.5 liang), Chuan Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, 0.5 liang, crushed and lightly stir-fried).
The above herbs are pounded and sifted into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water, decoct until 6 fen remains, strain, and take warm before meals.
For Qicao occurring on the neck, resembling a jujube pit under the skin that cannot dissipate, resulting in indurated swelling and pain, the Kongqing San (Azurite Powder) formula is indicated.
Kongqing (Azurite, 3 fen, calcined and finely ground), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 3 fen), Xixin (Herba Asari, 3 fen), Gouqigen (Root Cortex Lycii, 3 fen), [Text missing, likely a herb] (3 fen, roasted until yellow), Gan Wunao (Dried Brain of Toad?, 3 large bean sizes), Banmao (Mylabris, 1 fen, stir-fried with glutinous rice until yellow, remove head, feet, wings), Diandan (Euphorbia kansui Root?, 1 fen, stir-fried with glutinous rice until yellow).
The above herbs are pounded into a fine powder, sifted, and mixed. Take 1 qian with warm sour rice wash before meals.
For chronic Qicao that does not heal, the Yuanjing San (Blister Beetle Powder) formula is indicated.
Yuanjing (Blister Beetle, 40 pieces, remove head, feet, wings, stir-fry with glutinous rice until yellow, discard rice), Haizao (Sargassum, 2 liang, washed to remove saltiness), Diandan (Euphorbia kansui Root?, 20 pieces, remove head, feet, wings, stir-fry with glutinous rice until yellow), Muli (Concha Ostreae, [dose missing]).
The above herbs are pounded into a fine powder, sifted, and mixed. Take 7 qian with warm wine on an empty stomach and before sleep. The pathogen will be discharged via urination, appearing similar to rotting sinews.
The Shenyan Xijiao Wan (Miraculous Rhino Horn Pill) formula for Qicao:
Xijiaoxie (Horn of Rhinoceros, 3 fen), Shexiang (Moschus, 0.5 liang), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 0.5 liang, roasted until slightly yellow), Sheng Heidouhuang (Black Soybean, 0.5 liang), Banmao (Mylabris, 1 fen, remove head, feet, wings, stir-fry with glutinous rice until yellow, discard rice).
The above herbs are pounded into powder, mixed with refined honey, and formed into pills the size of mung beans. Take 10 pills with gruel drink on an empty stomach daily. The root of the disease will be discharged via urination, leading to recovery.
Another prescription:
Woniuqiao (Shell of Snail, 1 liang, stir-fry with half sheng of cow's milk until dry, finely ground), Chuan Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, 3 fen, pounded into powder).
Mix the above herbs and grind uniformly. Take 1 qian with warm wine on an empty stomach daily. Evil substances will be purged through defecation.
