Fengluo (a disease caused by dietary indiscretion, fatigue, thirst, and excessive consumption of running water, leading to the retention of bee venom and subsequent transformation). At the onset, the root of the lesion is located in the neck. After spreading through three or four locations, it presents only as swelling, ulceration, and sores resembling carbuncles (Yong, 痈). It recurs after healing, at which point the root of the disease shifts to the Spleen (Pi, 脾).
For Fengluo occurring in the neck and nape, characterized by clustered nodules accompanied by swelling and pain, the Wuxiang San (Five Fragrances Powder) is indicated.
Herbs: Chenxiang (Aquilaria Lignum), Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Xunluxiang (Boswelliae Resina), Chuan Shengma ( Cimicifugae Rhizoma), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus), Shexiang (Moschus).
Preparation and Administration: The above herbs are crushed, passed through a fine sieve to make a powder, and mixed uniformly. Each dose consists of two qian (approx. 6-10g depending on historical context, here likely smaller unit like 3-5g), boiled with one zhong (approx. 200ml) of water until reduced to six fen (approx. 120ml). Take warm on an empty stomach daily, and before evening meals.
For Fengluo arising in the neck, appearing in clusters of three to five, sized like bean shots, with redness, swelling, and pain, the Zaojiao Wan (Gleditsia Sinensis Pill) is used.
Herbs: Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Fructus, 8 liang; 4 liang crushed and soaked overnight in 2 sheng of fresh well water, squeezed to obtain 4 liang of juice; remaining 4 liang peeled, coated with 1 liang of butter, roasted until scorched yellow), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus, 1.5 liang), Wo Niu (Helix Pomatia, 1.5 liang, dried by baking), Qianniuzi (Pharbitidis Semen, 1.5 liang, lightly stir-fried).
Preparation and Administration: The above herbs are crushed and sieved into powder. Take the previously prepared Zaojiao juice, place it in a silver pot, and simmer slowly until reduced to about one sheng. Add the herb powder and continue cooking until the mixture can be formed into pills. Shape into pills the size of Sophora seeds (Wutongzi). Take twenty pills each time on an empty stomach and before evening meals, washed down with Huangqi Tang (Astragalus Decoction).
For Fengluo with distinct heads, the Lufengfang San (Honeycomb Powder) is used.
Herbs: Lufengfang (Vespae Nidus, 1 piece), Biejia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum, 1 fen), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, 1 fen), Chuanjiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, 1 fen, 200 grains), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 1 fen), Xionghuang (Realgar, 1 fen, finely ground).
Preparation and Administration: The above herbs are crushed and sieved into powder. Mix in the finely ground Xionghuang. Blend with raw sesame oil and apply to the sore. Use three times daily.
For Fengluo, the Chixiaodou San (Adzuki Bean Powder) is used.
Herbs: Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean, 1 liang, stir-fried until cooked), Bailian (Pseudostellariae Radix, 1 liang), Muli (Ostreae Concha, 1 liang, calcined to ash).
Preparation and Administration: The above herbs are crushed and sieved into a fine powder. For each dose, take one qian mixed with warm wine. Administer three times daily.
Another prescription:
Take the head of a crow, burn it to ash, grind finely, and apply externally.
Another prescription:
Shetupi (Ophichthys Skin/Sloughed Snake Skin) and Renfen (Human Feces) (each 1 fen, burned to ash).
Preparation and Administration: Grind the above materials, add one qian of Shexiang (Moschus), blend with lard from the twelfth lunar month, and apply.
Another prescription:
Burn dead dung beetles (Qianglang) to ash, grind finely, mix with vinegar, and apply.
Another prescription:
Burn Lufengfang (Honeycomb) to ash, grind finely, mix with lard from the twelfth lunar month, and apply.
For newly emerging Fengluo, initially shaped like a peach and itchy, which enlarges to the size of a chicken egg upon scratching, and swells like an inverted hand, use this method.
Preparation and Administration: Stir-fry salt until hot, wrap in cloth, and apply as a hot compress to the affected area. Recovery occurs within three to four days.
If Fengluo affects the nose, forming tumors inside and out with pus and blood discharge, use this formula.
Herbs: Lufengfang (Honeycomb, 1 liang, lightly roasted).
Preparation and Administration: Crush and sieve into a fine powder. On an empty stomach daily, take one qian mixed with rice broth.
Moxibustion Method for Fengluo:
Grind sulfur (Liuhuang) finely according to need. Place a amount the size of a bean on paper, ignite with a candle to melt and drip the liquid into the sore. Within a moment, if gas resembling bees exits, the condition will resolve.
