Dunshi (Lingering Corpse Disease) refers to the condition where pathogenic factors linger and stagnate within the muscles and blood vessels of the body. If suddenly provoked or touched, it will manifest as abdominal distension and fullness with stabbing pain, rapid breathing, pain attacking both hypochondriac regions, and upward rushing to the chest and heart. The clinical manifestation is characterized by the persistence and non-dispersion of the stagnant pathogen.
For the initial onset of Dunshi and Guizhu (Ghost Tethering), presenting with unbearable stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, use the Muxiang San (Costus Powder):
Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae, 3 fen) Guijianyu (Ramulus Corni Swinhoei, 1 liang) Jiegeng (Radix Platycodonis, 1 liang, remove the radix head) Dingxiang (Flos Caryophylli, 3 fen) Chenjupi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, 1 liang, soak in hot water, remove the white pith, and dry-roast) Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 1 liang, slice and lightly stir-fry).
Process the above ingredients by crushing and sieving into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water and 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, decoct until reduced to 0.6 zhong. Strain the dregs. Take warm at any time.
For the initial onset of Dunshi, or cases persisting for years without recovery, presenting with shortness of breath in the heart and abdomen, use the Guanggu Wan (Stork Bone Pill):
Guanggu (Os Gruidis, 3 cun, coat with butter and roast until slightly yellow) Yangbi (Nas Ovis/Aries, 2 pieces, roast until slightly yellow) Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis, 1 liang, process by heating until cracked, then slice) Shexiang (Moschus, 0.5 liang, finely grind and add) Xiyi (Saurus, 1 piece, remove skin and heart, grind, wrap in paper and press to remove oil) Douchi (Faba Fermentata, 5 pieces, remove skin and heart, grind, wrap in paper and press to remove oil).
Process the above ingredients by grinding into fine powder. Mix with refined honey and pound 300-500 times. Shape into pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take one pill with millet broth at any time.
For Dunshi and Wuzhu (Five Tetherings), presenting with abdominal fullness and unbearable pain, take this formula:
Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae, 2 or 3 fen) Guijianyu (Ramulus Corni Swinhoei, 1 liang) Jiegeng (Radix Platycodonis, 1 liang, remove the radix head) Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, 1 liang, slice and lightly stir-fry) Binglang (Semen Arecae, 1.5 liang) Zisu Jingye (Caulis et Folium Perillae, 1 liang).
Process the above ingredients by coarsely crushing and sieving into a powder. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 zhong of water and 0.5 fen of fresh ginger, decoct until reduced to 0.6 zhong. Strain the dregs. Take warm at any time.
For Dunshi, Feishi (Flying Corpse), Jiiju (Accumulations and Masses), hypochondriac pain radiating to the back, pain moving unpredictably, occurring in the zang-fu organs, or swelling in the abdomen with sudden pain, use the Henao Gu Formula:
Henao Gu (Os Capitis Corvi, 3 fen, coat with butter and roast until slightly yellow) Xionghuang (Realgar, 1 liang, finely grind and process by water flotation) Yege (Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii, 0.5 liang) Lilu (Radix Veratris, 0.5 liang, remove the radix head, lightly roast) Mangcao (Herba Siegesbeckiae, 1 liang, lightly roast) Wugong (Scolopendra, 1 piece, lightly roast, remove feet and wings) Badou (Semen Crotonis, 40 pieces, remove skin and heart, grind, wrap in paper and press to remove oil).
Process the above ingredients by grinding into fine powder. Mix with previously ground ingredients to ensure uniformity. Combine with refined honey and pound 300-500 times. Shape into pills the size of mung beans. Take three pills with warm wine at any time.
For treating Dunshi and Feishi, use Mustard Seed Poultice:
Jiezi (Semen Sinapis Albae, 1 sheng), steam until cooked, crush, and sieve. Mix with 2 liang of Huangdan (Minium). Divide into two portions. Place each portion in a porous cloth bag. Steam alternately until hot and apply to the painful area until relief.
For treating Dunshi Zhu, use External Application Formula:
Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi, 1 liang) Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis, 1 liang) Badou (Semen Crotonis, 2 pieces, remove skin and heart, grind, wrap in paper and press to remove oil).
Process the above ingredients by finely grinding into a powder. When using, mix with vinegar to form a paste. Apply to the affected area. Reapply when dry.
