Wind, cold, and dampness are three pathogenic factors. When they combine, they form Bi syndrome (Obstruction Syndrome). These pathogens may invade at different times, with varying degrees of predominance or scarcity. When wind-dampness is predominant, it is named Wind-Damp Bi.
If the muscles are injured, leading to traction and stiffness, or if the hands and feet are uncoordinated; or if wind enters the five zang organs, causing mental confusion, incoherent speech, forgetfulness, and frequent fear; or if there is pain in the joints and limbs.
For treating Wind-Damp Bi with traction and stiffness, or uncoordinated hands and feet, the Fangfeng San (Saposhnikovia Powder) formula is indicated.
Herbs: Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, 1 liang, remove the radicle), Chuan Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae, 0.5 liang), Chuan Wutou (Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii, 0.5 liang, processed until cracked, remove skin and umbilicus), Tianmendong (Tuber Asparagi, 1 liang, remove heart, bake), Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, 0.5 liang), Chishao Yao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra, 0.5 liang), Yuanzhi (Radix Polygalae, 0.5 liang, remove heart), Duhuo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, 0.5 liang), Mahuang (Herba Ephedrae, 1 liang, remove roots and nodes), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, 0.5 liang), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi, 0.5 liang), Dadou (Faba Seed, 1 he, stir-fried until cooked), Renshen (Radix Ginseng, 0.5 liang, remove rhizome), Baifuling (Poria, 2 liang), Xingren (Seed Prunus Armeniacae, 0.5 liang, soaked in water, remove skin and tips, stir-bran-fried until slightly yellow).
The above herbs are coarsely ground and sieved into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose, decoct with one zhongzhan (approx. 200ml) of water until reduced to 0.5 zhongzhan, strain the dregs, add 1 he (approx. 20ml) of wine, and boil for one or two boils.
For treating Wind-Damp Bi, as well as hemiplegia (Bi-zhong), with uncoordinated body and limbs, and spasmodic tendons and vessels, the Fangfeng San (Saposhnikovia Powder) formula is indicated.
Herbs: Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, 1 liang, remove the radicle), Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, 1 liang), Xiong (Radix Chuanxiong, 1 liang), Xixin (Herba Asari, 1 liang), Qianghuo (Rhizoma et Radix Notopterygii, 1 liang), Yinyu (Caulis Berberidis, 1 liang), Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae, 4 liang, remove roots and nodes), Cizu (Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata, side root of Aconite, dosage not specified in text fragment).
The above herbs are ground and sieved into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose, decoct with one zhongzhan of water and half a fen of fresh ginger until reduced to 0.6 zhongzhan, strain the dregs. Take warm at any time.
For treating Wind-Damp Bi with stubborn numbness of the body, itching of the skin, spasm of tendons and vessels, slurred speech, and uncoordinated hands and feet, the Tianma San (Gastrodia Powder) formula is indicated.
