When the pathogenic factor of wind-evil first invades the Yin aspect and the disease manifests in the five Zang organs, the symptoms include sudden loss of consciousness, gurgling sounds in the throat, a stiff tongue, and inability to speak.
For treating Wind-stroke (Zhong Feng, referring here to conditions induced by external wind affecting internal organs), characterized by a stiff tongue with inability to speak, spasticity and tightness of the four limbs, mental confusion, and loss of consciousness, it is appropriate to take Mahuang San (Hemp Seed Powder).
Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) (2 liang, remove roots and nodes), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, 石膏) (2 liang), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归) (1 liang, cut into pieces and lightly stir-fried), Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong, 川芎) (1 liang), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (0.5 liang, honey-fried until slightly red and cut into pieces). The above ingredients are coarsely ground and sieved to make a powder. Each dose consists of 0.5 liang, decocted in one large cup of water until reduced to 0.7 cup. Strain the dregs. Take warm, regardless of meal times.
For treating Wind-stroke, characterized by sounds from the throat, slurred speech, and discomfort or fullness in the chest and heart region, it is appropriate to take Guixin San (Cinnamon Heart Powder).
Cinnamomi Cortex (Guixin, 桂心) (3 fen), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风) (3 fen, remove the root head), Peucedani Radix (Qianhu, 前胡) (1 liang, remove the root head), Aurantii Fructus Immaturus (Zhiqiao, 枳壳) (1 liang, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow and remove the pith), Cornu Saigae Tataricae (Lingyangjiao, 羚羊角) (1 liang, shaved). The above ingredients are coarsely ground and sieved to make a powder. Each dose consists of 0.5 liang, decocted in one large cup of water until reduced to 0.7 cup. Strain the dregs. Take warm, regardless of meal times.
For treating Wind-stroke, characterized by a stiff tongue with inability to speak, spasticity and tightness of the four limbs, mental cloudiness and fainting, and failure to recognize people, it is appropriate to take Fangfeng San (Saposhnikovia Powder).
Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 防风) (1 liang, remove the root head), Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄) (2 liang, remove roots and nodes), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术) (1 liang), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin, 黄芩) (1 liang), Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chishaoyao, 赤芍药) (1 liang), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草) (1 liang, honey-fried until slightly red and cut into pieces). The above ingredients are coarsely ground and sieved to make a powder. Each dose consists of 4 qian, decocted in one medium cup of water with 0.5 fen of fresh ginger until reduced to 0.6 cup. Strain the dregs. Take warm, regardless of meal times; mild sweating is desirable.
