The so-called "Gui Mei" (Ghost Charm) disease is caused by the influence of ghostly entities. Patients often exhibit sadness, or their mind becomes chaotic as if intoxicated, speaking wildly and with fear, weeping while facing walls, and frequently suffering from nightmares or sleep paralysis. They may feel connected to spirits or ghosts, experiencing physical distress, alternating chills and fever, abdominal distension, shortness of breath, and an inability to eat. These symptoms are attributed to the influence of "Mei" (demonic charm).
This section addresses conditions where Qi deficiency in the Five Zang and Six Fu organs leads to the dispersion of Hun (Ethereal Soul) and Po (Corporeal Soul), causing instability in the Zang organs. Symptoms include erratic mood swings between joy and sorrow, and terror as if haunted by ghostly objects. These manifestations typically arise from severe fright.
Formula: Xionghuang (Realgar, *Realgar*) 1 liang, finely ground; Huangqin (Scutellaria Root, *Scutellariae Radix*) 0.5 liang; Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, *Coptidis Rhizoma*) 1 fen, removing stamens; Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark, *Phellodendri Cortex*) 1 fen, sliced; Chuan Dahuang (Rhubarb Root, *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*) 0.5 liang, sliced and lightly stir-fried; Zhuyu (Chinese Cornus Fruit, *Corni Fructus*) 0.5 liang; Puhuang (Pollen Typhae) [amount unspecified].
Process the above ingredients by grinding them into a fine powder through a silk sieve. Take one qian per dose at any time, mixed with warm wine. Administer three times daily. If the condition does not improve, gradually increase the dose to two qian.
This formula, known as "Da Sha Gui Wan" (Great Ghost-Killing Pill), is intended to repel all kinds of mountain spirits and malevolent entities.
Formula: Hutou Gu (Tiger Skull Bone, *Ossis Craniis Tigridis*) 30 liang (note: inner text suggests 3 liang); Xionghuang (Realgar, *Realgar*) 1 liang, finely ground; Guijiu (Aristolochia Manchuica Root, *Aristolochiae Manshuriensis Radix*) 1 liang, removing stamens; Tianxiong (Aconitum Kusnezoffii Root, *Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix*) 1 liang, removing skin and navel; Zaojia (Gleditsia Sinensis Pod, *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus*) 1 liang, removing skin and seeds; Wuyi (Chrysanthemum Indicum Flower Head, *Chrysanthemi Indici Flos*) 1 liang; Lilü (Veratrum Nigrum Root, *Veratri Nigri Rhizoma*) 6 liang, removing rhizome heads.
Process the above ingredients by grinding them into powder through a sieve. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of apricot kernels. This is indicated for latent malignant pathogens. Burn one pill placed in each of the four corners of the room. For febrile epidemic diseases, burn one pill near the bedside. For epidemics among cattle and horses, place one pill in the nostrils of the animals.
Another formula for treating manic delusions caused by ghost charms, characterized by rambling speech, frantic running, and confusion with failure to recognize people. Known as "Sha Gui Wan" (Ghost-Killing Pill).
