(This is the Sanpin Zhilian Fang [Three-Grade Refined and Smelted Formula] formulated by Mr. Chongxu of the Tang Dynasty, which was presented during the Xuanzheng period and belongs to the superior-grade elixir.) It clears the upper jiao (upper burner) and solidifies the lower jiao (lower burner), tonifying and benefiting the zang-fu organs. It treats five types of exhaustion and seven kinds of injuries, night sweats, pulmonary atrophy and deficiency damage, chronic cough with wheezing, cyanotic or blackish complexion, stabbing pain in the abdomen and hypochondrium, laxity of the large intestine, frequent and slippery urination, nocturnal seminal emission, emaciation, chronic malaria and dysentery, entrenched cold and deep-seated chilliness, and various conditions unresponsive to other medicines; taking it yields miraculous results.
Baishi Zhi (White Halloysite, purified by steaming in a clay vessel until red-hot, ground finely, and processed by water flotation) Zuogu Muli (Left-Gazing Oyster Shell, 7 qian, washed, pounded with chive leaves, and sealed with salt mud) Zhongru Fen (Calcium Carbonate Powder, refined, 1 liang).
The above four ingredients are each ground into an extremely fine powder, then mixed thoroughly and ground for one to two days. Glutinous rice paste is used as a binder to form pills the size of a chicken head. These are buried in a pit in the ground overnight to eliminate fire toxicity. Take one pill on an empty stomach, delivered with cooled strong Ginseng Decoction, or warm water is also acceptable. Regular consumption provides a gentle and balanced effect, non-drying, nourishing the skin and enhancing complexion, and dispelling old ailments. For women suffering from infertility for a long time, take with wine infused with Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) and Shudihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), which aligns with the wonders of creation. For cases of chronic cold, metrorrhagia and leukorrhea, deficiency damage, or cramping pain around the umbilicus, take with Mugwort and Vinegar Decoction. After finishing the medicine, consume a small amount of plain white porridge to settle the medicinal power. Avoid consuming pig and sheep blood, and mung bean flour, as they may counteract the efficacy. It is particularly effective for chronic intestinal wind and visceral toxin.
It treats insufficiency of true qi, weakness of the primordial organ, fatigue of the four limbs, soreness and pain in all joints, dizziness and headache, dim vision and tinnitus, peeling facial skin, swelling and itching of the scalp, mental confusion and lethargy, cold hands and feet, chest oppression, severe pain encircling the umbilicus, soreness and pain in the knees and shins, dull pain in the waist, difficulty in walking, stiffness and tension in the waist and back preventing flexion and extension, stabbing abdominal pain due to qi stagnation, distension in the bilateral hypochondrium, indigestion of food and fluids, regurgitation and nausea, reduced appetite, forgetfulness, shortness of breath and fatigue, vivid dreams at night, palpitations and night sweats, and frequent slippery urination. It can treat all diseases characterized by primordial organ deficiency and cold.
Wubeizi (Chinese Gall, 8 liang) Fuling (Poria, peeled, 8 liang) Zijiba Ji (Purple Morinda Root, heart removed, 16 liang) Buguzhi (Psoraleae Fructus, soaked in wine, stir-fried, 10 liang) Roucongrong (Cistanche Stem, implied by context "Rou", standard formula requires Cistanche).
Grind the above into a fine powder, mix evenly with the previously ground medicines, and use wine paste to form pills the size of a sophora seed. Take 15 to 20 pills on an empty stomach before meals, swallowed with warm wine, or salt water is also acceptable.
