Seven pieces of goat dung and a clump of greasy hair are burned to ash and taken with wine. Alternatively, seven stalks of small garlic (with leaves) are boiled with salt and vinegar and taken in one dose when pain occurs. (Avoid eating soft-shelled turtle.)
For all such conditions regardless of Yin syndrome, Yang syndrome, deficiency syndrome, or excess syndrome:
Use five qian of clean white sugar. For Yin syndrome, mix with ginger and scallion decoction; for Yang syndrome, mix with plain boiled water; for deficiency syndrome, take with rice gruel; for excess syndrome, take with tangerine peel decoction; for food stagnation, take with hawthorn decoction; for chest binding (Jie Xiong), take with light salt water; for ascariasis colic (Hui Jue), take with mume decoction; for uterine bleeding (Xue Beng) in women, take with soot from the bottom of the cooking pot decoction.
For discomfort and pain in the chest and diaphragm, including all conditions of cold binding, heat binding, phlegm binding, glomus binding, and fluid binding:
Crush fresh ginger into a paste, extract the juice, stir-fry the residue until hot, wrap it in silk cloth, and gradually apply as a compress to the chest, heart area, and hypochondrium. The pain will relieve spontaneously. If the ginger cools, reheat and continue compressing (if it is heat binding, stir-fry lightly). If there is constipation of both stool and urine, apply the compress to the umbilical and abdominal areas.
Additionally, Hua Tuo's emergency rescue formula: Crush green onion whites until hot and apply as a compress to the umbilicus. Alternatively, crush three cun of green onion whites, decoct them in wine, and administer orally to restore Yang Qi. (Also treats Yang collapse.)
Urgently take more than ten pear leaves, pound them into an extremely fine paste, mix thoroughly with hot distilled liquor, filter out the residue using cloth, drink the liquid, cover with a blanket, and sleep to induce sweating. Alternatively, decoct five qian of fermented soybean (Dan Dou Chi) and seven green onion heads with roots in water, drink, and sleep to induce sweating. Or, take one pinch of mung bean powder (pounded) and one pinch of rock sugar powder (pounded), mixed with warm water.
Boil eggs thoroughly, split them in half using a silver utensil, and apply them hot to the umbilicus. Replace the egg halves when they turn black, continuing until they no longer turn black.
Three slices of ginger, half he of sesame seeds (stir-fried), three stalks of green onion whites, two qian of fine tea (pounded), and half jin of good liquor are decocted together until reduced to four liang. Filter out the residue, take hot, cover with a blanket, and sleep. If there is food stagnation combined with exterior pathogen, spontaneous vomiting will occur; if there is cold, spontaneous sweating will occur; if there is Yin-cold invasion, Yang will be restored. (The treatment method for epidemic febrile diseases differs from this, as sweating is contraindicated for epidemics.)
Decoct amaranth leaves and drink the soup; one bowl is effective.
Sudden onset of yellow discoloration after five or six days:
Mix half cup of sesame oil with one egg white and take orally.
Swallow one or two raw eggs; this is effective. Alternatively, expose the nose to the vapor generated by quenching aged vinegar in hot water.
Another prescription: Soak eggshells that have been used to hatch chicks in water and drink the infusion. Or, decoct fulonggan (Caulis Longan / Hearth Soil) and take three times daily.
