Immediately mix mustard seed powder with water to fill the umbilicus, then apply heat through a cloth layer using a hot object. Recovery occurs upon sweating. (This method is suitable for the initial stage of epidemic disease; if several days have passed since onset, diaphoresis should not be induced, which differs from the treatment principles of *Shanghan* [Cold Damage])
Take two liang of stir-fried black soybeans (*Soybeanis Semen Preparatum*), one qian of honey-fried licorice root (*Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata*), and add one zhong of water. Decoct to obtain the juice, and drink it frequently in small amounts.
Take one cup of yellow brown sugar, one cup of fresh ginger juice, and one large cup of boiling water. Mix well and take rapidly while hot. Cover with blankets to induce sweating for recovery.
Burning *Atractylodis Rhizoma* (Cangzhu) and red dates frequently can prevent epidemics. Alternatively, place the inner garment of a person in the early stage of illness into a steamer and steam it for the time it takes to burn one incense stick; the whole family will remain uninfected. Or, frequently bathe with decoction made from peach branches growing towards the east to avoid infection. Alternatively, finely chop pine needles and take them warm with yellow wine, three times daily. Additionally, burn red dates, *Artemisiae Scopariae Herba* (Yinchen), and *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma* (Dahuang) in the room every morning. Or, take one jin each of *Atractylodis Rhizoma* and red dates, pound into a paste, and form pills the size of marbles; burn one or two pills daily. Or, soak one large *Cyathulae Radix* (Guanzhong) in a water vat and add a small amount of alum. Or, bake *Plantaginis Semen* (Cheqianzi) between papers, grind into powder, and take two qian mixed with water. Or, throw a pinch of black soybeans into the water vat every morning so the whole family remains uninfected. At the fifth watch (early morning), secretly drop a large handful of black soybeans into the well without being seen; families drinking this water will not be infected.
Additionally, slice raw *Rhei Radix et Rhizoma*, place in a container, seal with paper, and steam it inside the rice pot when cooking meals.
Grind realgar (*Realgar*) and *Atractylodis Rhizoma* together into fine powder. Mix with sesame oil and apply to the nostrils. After leaving the sickroom, use a paper strip to stimulate sneezing by probing the nose, and drink one cup of realgar wine (made with distilled liquor is especially effective).
On the noon hour of the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, harvest many tender leaves of *Xanthium strumarium* (Canger) and dry them in the shade for storage. When needed, grind into powder and take two qian mixed with cold water, or decoct in water for oral administration.
Take one hundred large cash coins and one dou of water. Boil until reduced to eight sheng. Add three fen of musk (*Moschus*). Drink frequently; recovery occurs through vomiting or purging.
Decoct twenty-seven seeds of Ziziphus jujuba (*Zaoren*) in water and take orally.
Mix one zhan of raw lotus root juice with one he of raw honey and take orally after blending.
Boil leaves of Malva verticillata (*Kuicai*) and consume them with minced garlic; symptoms will cease.
Take three qian of indigo flower (*Indigotidis Folium* - note: text says dianhua, often referring to indigo dye source), grind finely. Mix with one egg white and one cup of distilled liquor and take orally. Then, crush leaves of Platycladus orientalis (*Ce Bai Ye*) to extract natural juice, mix with earthworm mud, and apply to the most swollen area. (Also treats *Datou Wen* [Big Head Plague])
