Caoxin Tu (Fulonggan, prepared earth from the center of a cooking stove) is ground into fine powder, mixed with water to form pills, and inserted into both nostrils.
For those who habitually suffer from this condition:
During the initial, middle, and final periods of the three "Fu" days each year, take one jin (approx. 500g) of fresh ginger (Shengjiang), crush it, decoct it in water until thoroughly boiled. First fumigate, then bathe. Rub the ginger on the knees, head, both wrists, calves, and soles of the feet until the water cools down. This can permanently eradicate the root cause. Alternatively, on the Dragon Boat Festival, burn an entire almanac (Huangli) to ash, mix the ash with realgar wine (Xionghuang Jiu) to form pills the size of Chinese honeylocust seeds (Wutongzi). Take one pill orally with warm water every morning.
For chronic malaria occurring every other day (intermittent malaria):
Take five jin of old ginger (Laojiang), decoct it strongly in water. One hour before the onset of the malaria fever, wash both feet with the hot decoction. Then, decoct three qian (approx. 11.25g) of Chuanbeimu (Fritillariae Bulbus) and drink it. Recovery may occur even after two or three treatments.
Take four liang (approx. 125g) of white sugar (Baitang), dissolve it in warm baijiu (distilled liquor), and drink until slightly intoxicated, then stop.
Another prescription: Crush single-clove garlic (Dutou Suan) and realgar (Xionghuang) together to form pills the size of longan seeds. Dry them and store. After the malaria has attacked four or five times, at the time of cockcrow, take one pill, crush it, and administer with well water.
Another prescription: Take young shoots of Plantago seed herb (Cheqianzi Cao), rub them until warm, and insert into the nostril one hour before the morning onset (left nostril for males, right for females).
Beat two chicken eggs (Jizi), add one liang (approx. 37.5g) of white sugar, mix evenly, steam, and eat. (Known as "One Liang Gold").
Burn Tortoise Shell (Guiban) until it retains its medicinal properties (cinnabar-like residue), grind into powder, and take two qian with wine. Alternatively, roast dog hair to ash and take with water.
Decoct Child's Urine (Tongbian) with honey. Stew and consume before taking the main medicine.
Use two pieces of cloth, dip them in very hot wine, and wipe downwards from the chest. Replace the cloth when it cools. After several times, the stagnant qi will descend and flow freely, leading to bowel movement and recovery.
Another highly effective powder, Shenxiao San (This formula is extremely effective and can be prepared into pills for public relief; it is inexpensive yet powerful): Raw Licorice Root (Sheng Gancao) and Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua) each four qian, Black Soybean (Hei Laidou) eight qian (ground into powder), and clean yellow earth (Jing Huangtu) five qian. Decoct in water and take orally. The desired effect is a slight sweat. If encountering epidemic conditions, increase the dosage tenfold. Mix with a small amount of rice paste and ten liang of refined honey to form pills the size of marbles. Take one pill per dose, dissolved in warm water. For severe cases, take three to five pills at once. For healthy individuals, taking one pill every morning can prevent transmission.
