To treat chronic malaria that does not resolve, and diseases caused by mountain miasma (mountainous dampness and heat pathogens).
Nux Moschata (two nuts: one wrapped in flour and baked until cooked, one used raw) Cardamomum Fructus (two fruits, processed using the same method above) Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex (two cun, one cun used raw, [text implies processing into coarse powder], divided into one dose. On the day of malaria attack, decoct with two bowls of water until reduced to eight-tenths volume for administration; the dregs are decocted again for a second dose.
To treat all types of malaria.
Os Tigris (roasted with butter, two liang) Cinnabaris (finely ground) Ostreum Concha Pulvis Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati (cut into pieces, stir-fried) Ramulus Cinnamomi Cortex Radix Bupleuri (Note: Text says Guixin/Cinnamon Heart, but contextually often paired with others; sticking to text: Cinnamomi Cortex) Radix Anemarrhenae (each of the above, one liang) Resina Incensi Radix Glycyrrhizae (stir-fried with honey) Sarcocarpa Mume (stir-fried) Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata (processed) Fructus Aurantii (pith removed, stir-fried with bran) Moschus (separately ground) Lignum Aquilariae Resinatum Radix Dichroiae (each of the above, half a liang) Semen Persicae (37 seeds, soaked in hot water, skin and pointed ends removed, excluding double-kernel seeds, stir-fried) Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (one piece, size of a chicken egg, half baked [text implies processing], [processed together]) Above ingredients are made into fine powder. Add the separately ground medicines and mix evenly. Knead with refined honey and pound three to two hundred times until uniform. Form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take fifteen pills per dose, administered before meals with decoction of peach branches.
To treat all types of malaria, which occur at regular intervals. Initially, there is a sensation of stretching and yawning, followed by chills, trembling of the jaw, and coldness throughout the body. The waist and spine both ache. After the cold shivering subsides, internal and external heat ensues, accompanied by severe headache as if splitting, thirst for cold drinks, or phlegm accumulating in the chest causing fullness and nausea. It may present as heat preceding cold, or cold preceding heat; more cold than heat, or more heat than cold; equal amounts of cold and heat; only heat without cold; or only cold without heat. It may occur once daily, or recur six to seven days after an episode. All these conditions are treated.
Radix Glycyrrhizae (charred) Semen Phaseoli Radiati (powdered) Nelumbinis Folium (cooked/softened, each five qian) Calamina (ground) Borax (ground) Moschus (ground, each half a liang) Folium Aureum (twenty-five leaves, used as coating) Realgar (boiled in vinegar, two and a half liang) Cinnabaris (washed and finely ground, one liang)
Above ingredients are made into fine powder. Knead with refined honey. Each liang of powder produces twenty pills, shaped flat. Coat with gold leaf. Take one pill per dose, dissolve in fresh water and administer. For daily attacks, take before the onset; for every-other-day attacks, take on the night when no attack occurs; for attacks occurring every few days, take on the night prior to the expected attack; for consecutive daily attacks, take at dawn.
