Treats all types of accumulated heat, swelling and pain in the throat and pharynx (Yan Hou Zhong Tong), sores on the mouth and tongue (Kou She Sheng Chuang), mental restlessness and irritability (Xin Zhong Fan Zao), obstruction and stifling sensation during swallowing (Yan Wu Fang Men), or laryngeal closure and blockage (Hou Bi Yong Sai) where even water and gruel cannot be swallowed. It also treats epidemic febrile diseases (Tian Xing Shi Yi), mania and fainting confusion (Fa Huang Hun Kui), addressing all these conditions.
Mangxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, calcined and finely ground), Hanshuishi (Aqua Marina), Puxiao (Natrii Sulfas), Xiaoshi (Natrii Nitratis), Mayaxiao (Natrii Sulfas crystallized), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (all in equal proportions).
First, decoct the Gancao to obtain two sheng of liquid, filter out the dregs, then add the remaining herbs and decoct again. Stir continuously with a willow wood spatula until the ingredients are properly melted and dissolved. Then add Qingdai and mix evenly. Pour into a clay basin and wait for it to cool and solidify into a frost-like substance. Grind into a fine powder. Take a small amount each time, hold in the mouth to dissolve, and swallow the saliva. Use at any time. If there is laryngeal closure and blockage preventing swallowing, use a small bamboo tube to blow the powder into the throat for immediate relief; frequent application yields better results.
Tonifies Kidney Water, descends Heart Fire, clears the Upper Jiao and consolidates the Lower Jiao.
Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shanzhizi (Gardeniae Fructus), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Fuling (Poria) (each 1 liang above); Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba) (each 10 liang).
Cut the herbs into pieces. For each dose of 5 qian, use one dan of water, decoct until three-tenths remain, filter out the dregs, and take mixed with honey.
Treats invasion by pathogenic heat causing qi stagnation above the diaphragm and constipation/stagnation in the five zang organs.
Take the aforementioned Puxiao, decoct it, clarify and filter five to seven times. Leave it exposed under the stars and moon overnight until dawn, when it naturally forms blue-white blocks. Pack tightly into a porcelain jar, place over charcoal fire, starting from slow to intense heat, until it naturally melts into liquid. Boil until no longer sizzling, then apply intense heat for the duration of one incense stick. Remove and pour onto clean ground, cover with a basin to eliminate fire toxicity, then grind into a fine powder. For every two jin of this powder, add two liang of powdered raw and cooked Gancao, mix well. Take an appropriate amount before bed. Alternatively, take 1-2 qian, administered with decoction of peach blossoms or scallion white soup. This medicine is originally cold in nature; after calcination, it becomes warm and non-toxic. Avoid fish and toxic foods.
Treats accumulated heat.
Dihuang Zhi (Rehmanniae Juice, 4 sheng 2 he), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Weirui (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma) (each 4 liang above); Gualou Gen (Trichosanthis Radix) (5 liang); Shengjiang Zhi (Zingiberis Recens Juice), Sheng Digupi (Phellodendri Cortex), Sheng Maidong Zhi (Ophiopogonis Juice), Baimi (Mel, each 2 sheng above); Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (8 liang); Zhuli (Bambusa Textilis Sap) (3 he. Another version uses Zhuye).
Cut the herbs. Use 12 dou of water, first decoct the various herbs to obtain 3 sheng of liquid. Filter out the dregs, then add Zhuli, Dihuang Zhi, and Maidong Zhi. Decoct slowly over low heat for four or five boils. Add Baimi and Shengjiang Zhi, simmer gently, and reduce to obtain 6 sheng of liquid. Initial dose: 4 he. Administer three times daily and once at night. Gradually increase the dose to 5-7 he. In the fourth and fifth lunar months, administer as a powder.
