[Da] If a pregnant woman suddenly experiences severe stabbing pain in the heart and abdomen, suffocation, and fainting to the point of death, it is termed Zhong'e (Sudden Evil Invasion). This occurs when evil qi invades the fetus and harms the body. The reason for this is that blood and qi naturally nourish the mother and serve as the master of spirit. If blood and qi are disharmonious, spirit becomes weak, allowing toxic evil qi to invade. Such diseases during pregnancy can also damage the fetus.
[Xue] For the aforementioned symptoms, it is best to regulate and tonify healthy qi. Use a decoction of Lonicerae Japonicae Herba (Jinyinhua, 金银花) alone for drinking.
Danggui San (Angelica Decoction): Treats Zhong'e during pregnancy with heart and abdominal pain.
Ingredients: Radix Angelicae Sinensis (Danggui, 当归), Rhizoma Tingitae (Dingxiang, 丁香), Radix Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong, 川芎) (each 3 liang), Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae Viride (Qingjupi, 青橘皮) (2 liang), Fructus Evodiae (Wuzhuyu, 吴茱萸) (0.5 liang, remove stalks, soak in water three times, stir-fry until black).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder. Take 1 qian at any time, mixed with warm wine.
Another prescription: Radix Rehmanniae Preparata (Shengshengdihuang, 生干地黄) (1 liang), Fructus Aurantii (Zhiqiao, 枳壳), Radix Aucklandiae (Muxiang, 木香) (each 7.5 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder. Take 1 qian each time, mixed with wine.
Another prescription: Radix Platycodi (Kujie, 桔梗) (2 liang, finely cut and slightly stir-fried), Rhizoma Zingiberis Recens (Shengjiang, 生姜) (0.5 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Decoct in water and take.
Supplement records: Treats Zhong'e during pregnancy with twisting and urgent pain in the heart and abdomen, resembling a ghost strike, where massage is contraindicated, or accompanied by hematemesis or epistaxis. Use Folium Artemisiae Argyi (Shuai'ai, 熟艾) (size of a fist), boil to make juice, and take frequently.
Another prescription: Use 1 chalice of salt and 2 chalices of water, mix and take. Spray with cold water; vomiting will bring relief.
Another prescription: Powdered Caudex Caulis Fossiliae (Zaoxintu, 灶心土). Take 2 qian each time, mixed well water. White boiled water may also be used.
Another method: Take sweat-stained clothing, preferably from a man worn close to the body for a long time. Burn to ash but preserve its nature. Mix with boiling water and take.
[Da] Discussion states: The qi from the eight directions across four seasons constitutes wind. It is usually observed on the day of Winter Solstice. If it comes from its native direction, it nurtures all things. If not from its native direction, it is called Empty Evil, which harms all things. When the human body is deficient, it is invaded. If wind evil lodges in the skin and enters the meridians, it causes stubborn bi-syndrome with numbness and insensitivity. If it enters sinews and vessels, accompanying cold causes spasms and deviation; accompanying warmth causes flaccidity. If it enters zang-fu organs, it leads to trance and palpitations. All five zang-shu points are located on the back. When zang-fu organs are deficient and cold, evil enters via these shu points, causing various diseases according to the affected zang-fu and meridians. Wind stroke during pregnancy, if not treated early, will cause miscarriage.
[Xue] According to "Jingji Yao" (Essentials of Pathogenesis): Wind is essentially heat; when heat prevails, wind moves. One should use stillness to overcome restlessness, which is also a method of nourishing blood. Treatment methods must involve mild sweating and mild purging. Excessive sweating depletes Wei Qi (Defensive Qi); excessive purging damages Ying Blood (Nutritive Blood). Although there are taboos against sweating and purging, there is a distinction between Zhong Zang (Invading Zang) and Zhong Fu (Invading Fu). Zhong Fu often affects the four limbs, presenting with floating pulse, aversion to cold, stiffness, and numbness. Zhong Zang often affects the nine orifices, presenting with relaxed lips and loss of speech, deafness, nasal congestion, blurred vision, and constipation. Zhong Fu is suitable for sweating; Zhong Zang is suitable for purging. Once exterior and interior are harmonized, treatment should focus on the meridians, using major medicines to nourish. This is the key method for treating wind stroke. Pregnant women suffering from this should be treated accordingly, assisted by fetal-anchoring medicines.
